“Year-end is one of the best times to buy a new car as automakers look to maximize sales numbers for the calendar year,” says Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. Car companies tend to offer holiday discounts and incentives on new cars.

Even dealers admit that consumers who shop between Christmas and New Year’s have a good chance of getting a great price on a new car. “December can be a tough time for many dealerships,” says Robert Elder, president of Elder Automotive Group, which owns car dealerships in Florida. It’s a tough time for dealers because people are busy with family and travel, leaving dealerships often empty and hunting for customers. “We always have incredible deals during this time of the year, and it’s honestly unfortunate that people aren’t taking advantage of those opportunities to save big,” adds Elder.
