The Toyota Venza, Nissan Murano and three-row Toyota Highlander all impressed reviewers when they were new with smooth rides, well-made interiors and useful cargo space. All three have excellent reliability ratings as well. The five-seat Ford Edge has stylish looks and solid safety ratings, while the Chevrolet Traverse has a third row that reviewers said can handle adults, which is a rare thing for a midsize SUV. The Mazda CX-9 has a smaller third row, but performance that’s athletic and nimble for a midsize SUV. If you want to head off-road, the Toyota 4Runner is an excellent choice.
