Volkswagen has announced that the redesigned 2015 Golf R will start at $37,415, including destination. The Golf R was last sold for the 2013 model year, and the automaker’s hottest hatchback will rejoin the Volkswagen Golf lineup when it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2015.
The 2015 Golf R will be the most powerful version of the Golf that Volkswagen has ever brought to the U.S. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 292 horsepower (36 horsepower more than the 2013 model) is standard. Fuel economy has also improved, as Volkswagen reports that the 2015 Golf R gets 30 mpg on the highway, which is 3 mpg more than the 2013 model. The new Golf R will come with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automated manual transmission. A manual transmission will not be available, at least not when the Golf R first goes on sale. According to Volkswagen, the 2015 Golf R has a top speed of 155 mph, and standard launch control helps it accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
Volkswagen says that the Golf R will only be available as a four-door model that comes in two trims: base and Golf R with DCC and Nav. The base Golf R comes standard with a 5.8-inch touch-screen audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, an iPod adapter, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless access with push-button start and a rearview camera. The upmarket 2015 Golf R with DCC and Nav starts at $39,910 and includes additional features like an adaptive suspension system, front and rear parking sensors, navigation and a Fender audio system.
The 2015 Volkswagen Golf R can be pre-ordered on Volkswagen’s website, and the first 500 cars will only be available in the top trim.
