Mercedes-Benz announced this week that its all-new luxury compact crossover SUV, the 2015 GLA-Class, will have a base price of $32,225 including $925 for destination. This price applies to the base GLA250 with front-wheel drive. Opting for a GLA250 with Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel drive system increases the price by $2,000. The high-performance GLA45 AMG starts at $49,225.
The GLA250 and GLA250 4MATIC are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 208 horsepower. A seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission is standard. When the GLA-Class hits dealerships this September, only the 4MATIC version will be available. The base front-wheel drive model hits dealerships next spring.
The GLA45 AMG is also powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but it produces 355 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. 4MATIC all-wheel drive and an AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are standard.
Standard features on the five-seat GLS250 include Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming, a USB port, HD Radio and a 5.8-inch display screen with a central control knob. Notable options include navigation with a 7-inch display and an 80 gigabyte hard drive, a Harman Kardon stereo system, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a rearview camera, Mercedes' Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control system and blind spot and lane keeping assist.
Autoblog writes that the Mercedes-Benz GLA has potential to be a sales success in the blossoming compact crossover segment, as it "is very well rounded, and that balance means it ought to hold enough appeal to land on many buyers' consideration lists."
