Chevrolet has officially announced that an updated 2015 Chevrolet Cruze will debut at the New York International Auto Show. The automaker says the refreshed Cruze will feature updated exterior styling and new tech features when compared with the 2014 model.
“We’ve simply made a great, versatile car even better,” Steve Majoros, Chevrolet director of passenger car and crossover marketing, says in a statement. “Chevrolet continues to design, build and sell the most compelling small cars in its history and the 2015 Cruze offers more of the features, connectivity and efficiency that are important to today’s customers.”
An updated grille gives the 2015 Cruze similar styling cues to its Malibu and Impala siblings. Inside, Chevrolet has relocated interior controls like the trunk release to the center console, and the door lock switches have been moved from the center console to the doors.
The 2015 Chevy Cruze will feature new voice-activated tech features, which include Apple Siri integration and text message alerts. Additional USB ports, a 7-inch touch-screen display and an OnStar 4G LTE system with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot that can provide Internet access for up to seven devices at once are also available.
The refreshed Cruze comes in LS, LT, RS, LTZ, Eco and Diesel trims. Ten air bags are standard, and available driver assistance features include rear cross traffic alert, rear park assist, a rearview camera and side blind zone alert.
Chevrolet says that Cruze sales have topped 2.5 million globally since the affordable small car was introduced for the 2011 model year, but some analysts note that competition is fierce within its class.
“The Cruze receives a much needed update to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive compact space,” says Alec Gutierrez, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book. “Sales in the small car segment are down three months this year, so Chevrolet will need to roll out all of the stops if it plans to increase share within a segment in decline.”
The 2015 Chevrolet Cruze will go on sale this fall. Prices and full specs have yet to be announced, but the 2014 Cruze starts at $17,520 plus an $825 destination charge.
