This morning, we released our 2014 Best Cars for the Money awards. The awards are one of our favorite projects here at U.S. News Best Cars. Most automotive awards recognize cars based on how much of a total package they offer. Other awards recognize cars that are great values. Our Best Cars for the Money awards are the only automotive awards that do both. The awards cover 21 different automotive categories, including cars, trucks, minivans and SUVs. They truly offer something for everyone.
I’ve been with U.S. News Best Cars since the beginning, and I still get excited to crunch the numbers and see which cars come away with awards. Often, it’s not a surprise: The Lexus RX 350 has won a Best Car for the Money award for six years running. The Ford Edge has won Best 2-Row Midsize SUV for the Money for three years in a row. The Ford Fusion Hybrid is also celebrating its third year as Best Hybrid Car for the Money.
Other times, the awards have some surprises. As we worked on the new car rankings, we noticed that reviewers were extremely positive about the 2014 Mazda3. They love its performance and interior. This year, that critical acclaim, plus its price and long-term operating costs, landed it the 2014 Best Compact Car for the Money award.
These awards are meant to be a resource for you, the consumer. Because they highlight cars that earn great reviews from professional automotive critics, you can be sure than any of the award winners will be a car you’ll want to own. Also, because the awards take price and long-term ownership costs into account, the winners are cars that won’t break the bank.
