Forget cutting your Thanksgiving dinner short to stand in line at a big box store. Sure, saving a couple hundred dollars on a TV or laptop sounds great – sounds great that is, until you think about saving thousands of dollars on a new car. Some car companies are getting in on Black Friday sales and deals.

Brands like Ford, Toyota and Chevrolet are all offering Black Friday car deals. Ford is offering a pre-paid MasterCard of up to $1,000 to use for holiday shopping, or by the end of June, 2014, or you can apply the money to a new car purchase. That deal is in addition to other Ford deals the company is offering. Toyota Black Friday deals vary by region, and Chevrolet is marking down new car prices and offering cash back deals for Black Friday. If your idea of holiday spirit is more about giving than saving money, Mazda will donate $100 to one of four charities for every new Mazda it sells through Jan. 2, 2014.

While carmakers do have some Black Friday specials, some analysts say that you don’t have to camp out in front of dealerships to get the deals. “Black Friday is a fantastic time to buy a car, although don’t expect to see discounts significantly in excess of deals available either the week prior or week after,” says Alec Gutierrez, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “Black Friday lines up nicely with the annual yearend inventory clearance process that dealers begin late in Q3 and that’s what is really driving value at this time of year. While consumers will find special deals on a handful of models for Black Friday, the real savings are found on those 2013’s that dealers are trying to unload to make room for their 2014’s.”

Even if you don’t see an advertised Black Friday new car deal, it may be worth it to contact your local dealer to see if they’re offering any specials on the car you want.  After all, if you save enough on a new car, you won’t need a Black Friday discount on a new TV.
