2013 Toyota RAV4

Toyota announced it will unveil the redesigned 2013 Toyota RAV4 at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show next Wednesday.

Only a teaser image has been released so far, but auto writers speculate that the RAV4 will see several changes for the 2013 model year. Automobile Magazine reports, “Our sources say the 2013 Toyota RAV4 will continue to be based on the Camry platform, but it will ditch its optional third row of seats and only accommodate five passengers. …”

Auto journalists also expect the all-new 2013 RAV4 will have a better cabin. “Inside the 2013 RAV4 is likely to get a slightly more upscale interior, with Toyota’s Entune infotainment system being a central focus of the cabin,” writes Motor Trend.

Automobile Magazine anticipates that the RAV4 will give up its standard four-speed and optional five-speed automatic transmissions and will instead use a more fuel-efficient six-speed automatic.

Concerning the 2013 RAV4’s engines, Autoblog says, “Powertrains are expected to be of the four-cylinder variety (including a possible hybrid). …”

Motor Trend reports that the 2012 RAV4’s optional V6 engine may not carry over, but that a version of its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is expected to return.

When the new 2013 RAV4 hits dealerships, it will compete with rivals like the 2013 Ford Escape and Honda CR-V, which have both been redesigned recently. The $22,470 Escape seats five and comes with a variety of four-cylinder engine options, including two turbocharged engines. A six-speed automatic transmission is paired to all engines. The $22,695 CR-V also seats five and has a four-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota hasn’t announced pricing information for the 2013 RAV4 yet, but it is expected to go on sale in “the first half of 2013,” Left Lane News reports.
