Nissan took to its Facebook page, showing SUV shoppers what the redesigned 2013 Pathfinder will look like when it goes on sale this fall. The seven-seat crossover SUV receives an exterior and interior overhaul, and Nissan says in a statement it should deliver a 25 percent boost in fuel economy over the 2012 model.
Nissan says on its website the 2013 Pathfinder should get 18 mpg in city driving, and says in a statement it should get 26 mpg on the highway. The EPA hasn’t rated the 2013 Pathfinder’s fuel economy yet, but the two-wheel drive 2012 model gets 15/22 mpg city/highway, while V6 and V8 four-wheel drive models earn 14/20 and 13/18 mpg, respectively.
Along with better fuel economy, the new Pathfinder is getting away from its truck-based roots. Automobile Magazine writes, “The 2013 Nissan Pathfinder switches from body-on-frame to unibody construction, which should reduce overall weight and improve the vehicle’s on-road manners.” The 2013 Pathfinder will also have Nissan’s new continuously variable transmission (CVT) and the choice of two- or four-wheel drive. Nissan says the 2013 Pathfinder will be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Truck Trend says the new 2013 Pathfinder will share the same platform as the new seven-seat 2013 Infiniti JX crossover, and will likely have the same 265-horsepower V6 engine. The 2012 Pathfinder’s V8 engine is not expected to carry over.
Nissan hasn’t released the full list of specs and standard and optional features yet, but the 2013 Pathfinder will offer features like Nissan’s easy fill tire alert system, hill start assist, an Around View monitor, a rearview monitor, navigation, a tri-zone entertainment system, child seat mode, which lets passengers access the third row with a child seat installed in the second row, remote start, push-button start and a power liftgate. Pricing for the 2013 Pathfinder hasn’t been announced yet, but the 2012 model starts at $29,290.
