Chrysler Group is recalling some 2012 Dodge Journey and 2012 FIAT 500 vehicles because they may have contaminated brake fluid. About 340 vehicles are affected, and were built from Oct. 24 through Oct. 26, 2011. The contaminated brake fluid could cause the brake system’s sealing components to degrade, which could lead to a loss of braking ability and a possible crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by Chrysler Group and the recall will start in December. Dodge and FIAT dealers will replace all brake components that come in contact with the hydraulic brake fluid free of charge in affected vehicles. Owners can call Chrysler Group at 1-800-853-1403 if they have any questions, or call NHTSA’s safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit safercar.gov and search NHTSA campaign ID number 11V550000.
