2012 Kia Soul

Kia recently revealed pricing for the 2012 Soul, which received a mid-cycle refresh. The base 2012 Kia Soul with a manual transmission will start at $13,900. With an automatic transmission, the price increases to $15,700. The mid-level trim, the Soul+ (Plus), has a base price of $16,300 and increases to $17,300 with an automatic transmission. The Soul! (Exclaim) has a starting price of $19,600. All prices exclude a $750 destination charge.

These prices are up slightly from last year. The base 2011 Kia Soul starts at $13,300, which is $600 less than the 2012 model. The 2011 Soul+ costs $16,495 with an automatic transmission and $15,495 with a manual, both of which are $805 less than the corresponding 2012 model. The 2011 Soul! starts at $18,495, which is $1,105 less than the newer model. The 2011 Soul Sport starts at $18,495, but for 2012, the Sport trim is not available.

The 2012 Kia Soul has a base 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 138 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 164 horsepower. Kia says the 2.0-liter engine receives a boost of 22 horsepower compared with the 2011 model, while the 1.6-liter engine sees a 16-horsepower boost from last year.

The Soul is available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission for 2012. The 2012 Soul hasn’t been rated by the EPA yet, but Kia expects the 1.6-liter base engine to achieve 27/35 mpg city/highway with either the manual or automatic transmission, and the 2.0-liter engine to get about 26/34 with either transmission.

Kia says it improved the Soul’s interior noise and vibration levels for 2012, and gave it more standard features, including a tilt and telescoping steering wheel and hill-start assist. Other standard features include Bluetooth, satellite radio, USB and auxiliary audio input jacks, steering wheel-mounted controls, power windows and power locks.
