If you listen to music on your computer or smartphone, you’re probably familiar with Pandora. The Internet radio service has been integrated into aftermarket car stereos for some time, and now Pandora is expanding its reach with plans to offer the service in Scion vehicles. Additionally, Pandora will be available in 10 Ford and two Lincoln models.
Pandora’s edge over traditional radio is that the service allows listeners to rate songs, allowing the service to pinpoint the listener’s musical tastes. "Our goal is to allow people to personalize their radio experience anytime, anywhere. Nearly 50% of radio consumption happens in the car, so it's a natural venue for Pandora,” says Jessica Steel, Pandora’s executive vice president of business development, in a press release. “We want to make the experience as easy in the car as it is at home, at the office, and on a mobile phone."
No word yet on when you’ll see Pandora in new Scion vehicles, or how much it will cost, but the service is currently available from other automakers as well. “Drivers can now get Pandora in their BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Mini cars,” writes Autoweek. “Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Hyundai and Toyota have also announced plans to integrate the system into their vehicles.” Additionally, Pandora is currently available in the 2011 Ford Fiesta, as well as the 2012 model year Mustang, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles.
