These Are the Best Car Brands According to U.S. News Scores

One thing holds true for every vehicle buyer: They want a quality automobile. But how do you determine which cars are the best, especially with so many makes and models available? There's no one correct answer, of course, since different buyers will want different things: Some may want a high-performance sports car, while others may want more practical features like a spacious interior. Many others place safety technology at the top of their list of car-shopping priorities.

The whole process can seem daunting. That's why – in addition to the many new and used car rankings we produce at U.S. News – we created our Best Car Brand award. We use the same factors that drive our rankings – safety and predicted reliability ratings, fuel economy ratings, and expert driver impressions of these vehicles – to identify the automakers with the highest-quality cars.

Take a look through this slideshow to see the car brands we review, ranked from worst to best. Keep in mind that our scores sometimes change as new expert reviews and data become available. Therefore, the scores included in this story may be slightly different from the scores in our rankings and reviews.

Also, please note that this is strictly about which brand makes the best cars – this article doesn’t cover SUVs, trucks, or luxury vehicles, which are ranked separately. If you’d like to learn more about those vehicle segments, check out our articles on the Best SUV Brands, Best Truck Brands, and Best Luxury Brands.
