Here Is Our Full Ranking of Contenders for the U.S. News & World Report Best Cars for Families Award

When it comes to capable family haulers, SUVs with three rows continue to grow in popularity. One all-new model was added to the class this year, and a number of new introductions and redesigned models are expected to arrive for 2020.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Cars for Families awards are designed to honor those vehicles that excel in the areas that are important to families, including safety, interior space, quality, and features designed for parents and kids. The award methodology looks at the consensus opinion of the country’s top automotive reviewers, safety and reliability ratings, seating and cargo volume, and the availability of family-friendly features.

We present Best Cars for Families awards for 11 vehicle classes, with one winner (with the highest composite score) and two runners-up in each class. In this article, we'll explore the midsize 3-row SUVs included in the class in further detail, showing how each eligible vehicle fared against their rivals. Bigger SUVs, such as the 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2019 Ford Expedition compete in our Best Large SUV for Families category and are not included in this article. Not all 3-row SUVs had sufficient scores to be considered for the awards.

Note that we continually update our scores as new information becomes available. Because of that, the ratings shown in this article may not match the overall or component scores shown in the full reviews of the individual vehicle.
