Autolympics: Which Countries Make the Best Cars?

There’s nothing like the Olympics for fostering cultural understanding, the brotherhood of mankind, and pin trading – lots of pin trading. Let’s be honest, though. Most of us watch the Olympics to see American athletes kick some international butt. Cultural understanding and brotherhood are great, but we want to win.

It’s in that same competitive spirit that we took data from our car rankings and analyzed it to see which countries make the best cars, trucks, and SUVs. We also took a look at which countries do the best when it comes to making vehicles that are reliable, safe, and luxurious and have the best performance and interiors. To find the winners, we sorted car models based on what countries their brands are from. Then we averaged the scores of all models from that country on each measure, giving us a snapshot of what each country does best.

While some of the results are as predictable as the U.S. winning gold in women’s soccer, others are as surprising as Michael Phelps giving up swimming for a shot at gold in the hammer throw. Keep reading to see which countries make the best cars.
