2020 Audi TT Interior Review

Interior: 8.2

Even in the base trim, the 2020 Audi TT exudes class with its modernly styled cabin, first-class materials, and excellent fit and finish. Reviewers appreciate its simple styling and clean interior layout. State-of-the-art features like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit further help the TT stand out in the class.

The front seats are cozy and spacious, but the back seats in coupe models don't have much room. Cargo space is pretty good in the coupe.

  • "Both the TT and TTS provide cabins that are temples of chic minimalism. The design is graceful and contemporary, and premium materials are used throughout." -- Car and Driver
  • "The interior has not changed as much from the previous version, but still holds up as one of the more modern looking cabins available." -- CNET (2019)
  • "As with other Audi models, the TT's interior artfully blends high technology with an understated and minimalist design. Likewise, the materials used and build quality is excellent. In a time when other cars are cluttered with a mass of buttons and readouts, the TT's simplicity is refreshing." -- Edmunds (2017)

The Audi TT coupe seats four, though back-seat space is very tight. The front seats, however, are well-contoured and comfortable, even for taller occupants. The TT roadster seats two.

Leather and Alcantara upholstery, heated front seats, and power-adjustable front seats are standard. Sport seats and Nappa leather upholstery with honeycomb stitching are available.

For securing child safety seats, the coupe model has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear seats.

  • "The front seats offer more comfort than you'd likely expect from a small sports car. Technically, this Audi's coupe body style seats four, but the cramped rear seat is best left for luggage and grocery bags." -- Car and Driver
  • "Its front seats provide plenty of support and cushioning for hours of comfortable touring and there are enough adjustments to ensure that tall and short occupants will find a perfect driving position. The coupe's rear seats are very small and even children may find them too confining." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The TT's front seats offer great ergonomics and comfort, and as for the Coupe's rear seats, just forget them and fold them down to take advantage of the Coupe's 25-cubic-foot cargo capacity." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features include an MMI controller with handwriting recognition, wireless device charging, satellite radio, HD Radio, two SD card readers, a nine-speaker stereo, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3-inch screen. The TT also comes with proximity keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera. Roadster models have a power-operated soft top.

Audi’s Virtual Cockpit replaces the traditional gauge cluster with a vibrant display. Drivers can quickly peek at a variety of information like navigation and radio settings without having to turn their heads.

Available features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and blind spot monitoring.

Some rivals are available with driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning, but Audi doesn’t offer these in the TT.

  • "Audi's TT and TTS aren't available with forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, or drowsy-driver monitoring. These features are standard on the Mercedes-Benz SLC-class." -- Car and Driver
  • "The virtual cockpit with its 12.3-inch display in place of traditional analog dials is the only screen in the car, putting all of the information needed right in front of you. Unless you make a habit out of making your passenger set the air con and the radio station for you, it quickly feels very natural not to have to glance to your side to get the information you need. It all feels very driver-focussed (sic), which is reassuring, as the drive I was about to embark on would require every ounce of concentration." -- CNET (2019)
  • "[The virtual cockpit] is a must-get for modern Audis. Instead of physical gauges, the instruments are a 12.3-inch display running at 60 frames per second, powered by an NVIDIA quad-core computer processor. It displays a multitude of information, letting the driver focus forward instead of having to glance sideways for, say, map directions." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

The Audi TT has 12 cubic feet of cargo room, which is a good amount of space for a luxury sports car. The rear seats fold in a 50/50 split to accommodate longer items, and there’s also plenty of in-cabin storage spaces.

The convertible model has less cargo room at 7.5 cubic feet, but unlike some convertibles, you won’t lose any space when the top is down.

  • "The convertible variant of this Audi provides 7.5 cubic feet of cargo space. With the coupe body style, cargo capacity jumps to 12 cubic feet." -- Car and Driver
  • "Trunk space is adequate with 12 cubic feet of capacity for the coupe. Fitting a golf bag with a driver will likely require folding the rear seats flat, but that isn't unusual for cars in this class. The convertible's capacity of only 7.5 cu-ft may be a deal breaker for some." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The softtop is also a boon to luggage space, taking up none of the … trunk when folded." -- Automobile Magazine (2016)
