2019 Audi TT Interior Review

Interior: 8.2

The 2019 Audi TT has a sophisticated, elegant cabin full of luxurious flourishes like aluminum and wood trim. The front seats are spacious, and the coupe's trunk is large for the class. This Audi also boasts many high-tech features, including the widely praised Virtual Cockpit.

  • "It isn't just the look of the cabin, which is great, it's also the precision feel of the switches." -- Autotrader
  • "The interior has not changed as much from the previous version, but still holds up as one of the more modern looking cabins available." -- CNET
  • "As with other Audi models, the TT's interior artfully blends high technology with an understated and minimalist design. Likewise, the materials used and build quality is excellent. In a time when other cars are cluttered with a mass of buttons and readouts, the TT's simplicity is refreshing." -- Edmunds (2017)

Seating capacity in this Audi varies with body type. Coupes seat four people while the Audi TT roadster seats two. Leather seats, heated front seats, and power-adjustable front seats are standard. Upgraded leather upholstery with diamond stitching is available.

The front seats are comfortable and spacious, but the rear seats are cramped, even for smaller passengers. Coupe models have two complete sets of LATCH connectors for securing child car seats.

  • "The coupe is referred to as a 2+2, which means a pair of seats for normal people up front with accommodation for two elves behind them. We could put 'ridiculously small back seat' in the 'What We Don't Like' section, but the TT has been in existence for around 20 years, so it's not like it's some big unpleasant surprise." -- Autotrader
  • "The TT's front seats offer great ergonomics and comfort, and as for the Coupe's rear seats, just forget them and fold them down to take advantage of the Coupe's 25-cubic-foot cargo capacity." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "Its front seats provide plenty of support and cushioning for hours of comfortable touring and there are enough adjustments to ensure that tall and short occupants will find a perfect driving position. The coupe's rear seats are very small and even children may find them too confining. It's best to think of those seats as a secondary cargo area." -- Edmunds (2017)

Interior Features

Standard equipment in the Audi TT includes a 12.3-inch screen called the Audi Virtual Cockpit, an MMI controller with handwriting recognition, wireless phone charging, satellite radio, HD Radio, a nine-speaker stereo, two USB ports, and Bluetooth. You’ll also find proximity keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, rear and front parking sensors, and a rearview camera. Roadster models come standard with a power-operated fabric convertible top.

Available features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a navigation system, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Blind spot monitoring is available too.

The Virtual Cockpit draws praise from most critics. It replaces the physical instrument gauge with a large digital display that lessens the need to look away from the road. You control the settings by using a knob on the center console and buttons on the steering wheel.

  • "The virtual cockpit with its 12.3-inch display in place of traditional analog dials is the only screen in the car, putting all of the information needed right in front of you. Unless you make a habit out of making your passenger set the air con and the radio station for you, it quickly feels very natural not to have to glance to your side to get the information you need. It all feels very driver-focussed (sic), which is reassuring, as the drive I was about to embark on would require every ounce of concentration." -- CNET
  • "The virtual gauge cluster not only displays the speed and other vitals, but also handles audio, navigation and secondary system controls, too. The majority of functions are controlled via the MMI knob mounted on the center console right where your hand normally rests. The system works flawlessly, with quick responses and super sharp graphics that are easy to read at a glance. Some of the menus take some getting used to, but it quickly becomes intuitive. Further enhancing the cockpit's simplicity are the placement of the climate control knobs in the center of the circular vents and the lack of a center infotainment screen." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "[The virtual cockpit] is a must-get for modern Audis. Instead of physical gauges, the instruments are a 12.3-inch display running at 60 frames per second, powered by an NVIDIA quad-core computer processor. It displays a multitude of information, letting the driver focus forward instead of having to glance sideways for, say, map directions." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

The Audi TT coupe has about 12 cubic feet of cargo space, which is roomy for the class, and the 50/50 split-folding rear seats fold down to expand the available room. The two-seat roadsters have smaller trunks, with 7.5 cubic feet of space, but unlike many convertibles that lose room when the top is folded down, the TT’s trunk remains unrestricted.

  • "Trunk space is adequate with 12 cubic feet of capacity for the coupe. Fitting a golf bag with a driver will likely require folding the rear seats flat, but that isn't unusual for cars in this class. The convertible's capacity of only 7.5 cu-ft may be a deal breaker for some." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The softtop is also a boon to luggage space, taking up none of the … trunk when folded." -- Automobile Magazine (2016)
  • "Cabin storage amounts to a small center console bin under the center armrest and a glove compartment, but also a useful bin ahead of the gearshift and a storage drawer under the front-passenger seat. Stash away, but figure out what to do with that second travel mug, because there's only one exposed cupholder. A second holder deploys from the center console if you open the top and crook your elbow in. It's as convenient as it sounds." -- Cars.com (2017)
