2011 Audi TT Overview

For 2011, Audi made some significant changes to the TT, its luxury sports coupe and roadster model. The change reviewers are most excited about is more power: the 2011 model has 11 more horsepower than the 2010 did and 51 more pounds-feet of torque, which allows the TT to launch more aggressively off the line.

Though the Audi TT still isn’t as track-ready as other luxury sports cars, reviewers agree that it has a lot of other virtues to recommend it. Car and Driver says that “with each evolution, [the TT] becomes ever more credible as a sports car. We’re not sure its corporate cousin, the Porsche Boxster, has much to worry about at track days, but the TT’s 2011 changes, in concert with its carry-over combination of comfort, efficiency, and style, ought to boost the little Audi’s appeal even further."

Highlights of the 2011 Audi TT include its gorgeous exterior styling, one of the nicest interiors in the class, and standard all-wheel drive. Not only is the TT the only car in the class to offer all-wheel drive standard, it’s one of the few sports cars you can buy, period, with all-wheel drive. That makes it a natural choice for sports car shoppers in snowy areas. Finally, the TT has the lowest base price in the class.  If you’re looking for sporty luxury performance on a budget, the TT is your best bet.

Other Sports Cars to Consider

The Audi TT looks good, but if you think beauty is only skin deep, you’ll want to check out a sports car with better performance. The Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman are stronger performers than the TT is, though some may find their interiors sparse compared to the TT.

If you’re looking for a combination of style, performance and luxury, the Mercedes-Benz SLK won’t disappoint. Though not as performance-oriented as the Boxster or Cayman, reviewers say it can hold its own and outperforms the TT. As an added bonus, the SLK has a retractable hardtop, so it works as both a coupe and a convertible.  With the TT, you have to choose between the two. Keep in mind however, that like every other car in the class, the SLK costs more than the TT.

Details: 2011 Audi TT

The 2011 Audi TT gets a bump in engine power, a restyled grille and some other minor interior and exterior changes. The 2011 TT is available in two trims, the base 2.0 and TTS. Shoppers can opt for either coupe or convertible body styles. Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system is standard.

  • "Audi TT is a luxury tourer in base 2.0T trim and very close to an all-out sports car in TTS guise. While Porsche's Boxster and Cayman are ultimately sportier, the TT's more civilized demeanor might be just the thing for more casual motoring. Standard all-wheel drive is an added bonus. "--Consumer Guide
  • "For those interested in a little sport coupe or convertible that offers luxury, style and all-weather traction, the 2011 Audi TT won't disappoint. Those in search of a hard-core sports car should probably look elsewhere, however."--Edmunds
  • "For many people in this market, the gorgeous Audi interior - especially with the lovely baseball-glove-style, stitched-leather option - combined with the TTS's aggressive looks and powerful engine will make it a very attractive car. But we'd still sacrifice some of the Audi's standard features for the pure, emotional feel of the long-standing king of the category, the Porsche Boxster." -- Automobile Magazine
