2015 Audi Q7 Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Audi Q7 was new.

Interior: 7.2

The 2015 Audi Q7 earns praise for its remarkably elegant cabin, which includes high-quality materials like soft leather and authentic wood trim. Still, a few critics think the 2015 Q7’s interior styling is outdated. Test drivers say the Q7’s first two rows are comfortable and spacious, but its third row can only accommodate children. While some reviewers like the Q7’s straightforward infotainment system, others say that some competitors’ systems are easier to use. The 2015 Q7’s cargo space is below average for the class and critics find the amount of room to be insufficient for the Q7’s size.

  • "Audi design and workmanship are assets too, especially for those who appreciate the differences versus other luxury brands." -- Consumer Guide
  • "In typical Audi fashion, the cabin is comprised of attractive and high-quality materials. The dashboard is uncluttered and modern, and a host of advanced technology features are available." -- Left Lane News
  • "There's just something special about Audi interiors, and the 2015 Audi Q7 is no different. The supple leather and dark brown walnut wood trim complement each other, and there are just enough chrome and metal accents to make it feel special, without being flashy." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Q7's cabin is clearly older than Audi's latest interiors -- look at a picture of the A7 hatchback's dashboard to see what we mean. Nonetheless, it's a very nice place to spend time." -- AutoTrader (2014)

The Audi Q7 seats seven and comes standard with leather upholstery and heated, 12-way power-adjustable front seats. Ventilated front seats are available. Automotive writers say the Q7’s first- and second-row offer plenty of space and comfort. However, they agree that the third row only has enough space for children.

  • "The front power seats are wonderfully comfortable, and the second row offers up good room as well. Unfortunately, the cramped third row and tiny cargo space behind it aren't particularly useful." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "While the exterior styling fools the eye into making the vehicle seem smaller than it is, the interior, in reality, is smaller than one might expect. While the first two rows are spacious and comfortable, the third-row seats are best suited to children. ... " -- Left Lane News
  • "Adult-sized passengers will have plenty of space in the Q7's first two rows, but the third row is suitable only for kids." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "Those generous dimensions should have been a plus for interior volume, too, but that was not the case - the Audi’s second and third rows (standard in all Q7s) were disappointingly snug." -- Car and Driver (2011)

Interior Features

The 2015 Audi Q7 comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, an 11-speaker stereo system, satellite radio, Bluetooth and rear parking sensors. Optional features include four-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, Audi’s MMI infotainment system with navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system and a choice of either a Bose or Bang & Olufsen stereo system.

While some say that updates make the MMI infotainment system more user-friendly than it was in previous model years, others say it has a steep learning curve, and that some rivals’ systems are easier to use. Some test drivers appreciate that there are supplementary physical climate controls, but they say they can be hard to reach. A few automotive journalists also rave about the optional Bang & Olufsen stereo’s excellent sound quality.

  • "Do you love music? Do you only kinda like music? Either way, anything you play through the 14 custom-made speakers of the amazing Bang & Olufsen optional audio system simply needs to be heard to be believed." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "On the bright side, Audi has made numerous user-friendly improvements to MMI in recent years, to the point that it's now one of our favorite infotainment systems. The Q7 isn't a technological tour-de-force like Audi's newer models, but it still has plenty of gadgets to keep you occupied." -- AutoTrader (2014)
  • "The MMI electronics interface boasts logical menus and crisp graphics, although we still prefer BMW's iDrive or Mercedes' COMAND for overall ease of use." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "MMI still puzzles some of our testers, but others find it as convenient as the latest BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND systems. All three require familiarization, especially by first-timers. At least Audi provides separate ‘hard’ controls for routine climate adjustments, though they, too, are situated too low for easiest use while driving." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

Behind the third-row seat, the 2015 Q7 has 10.9 cubic feet of cargo space. With the third row folded, there is 42 cubic feet, and with the second and third rows folded, there is 72.5 cubic feet of cargo space. The Q7's overall cargo space is on the low end for the class and critics think its cargo hold is much smaller than the Q7’s exterior size suggests.

  • "Unfortunately, the exterior styling hides an interior short on 3rd-row and cargo space." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Despite having a larger footprint than its main competitors, the Q7 ranks below average for cargo capacity. …” -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "At least the load deck is flat, and rear seats can be folded without having to remove headrests first. Alas, erecting the folded 3rd-row seats demands a long stretch from the tail or rear doors. Small-items storage includes decent-size door pockets with bottleholders, front/rear cupholders, and a lidded console box in front, but no obvious place for stashing a smartphone or music player." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
