2013 Audi Q7 Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Audi Q7 was new.

Interior: 6.9

Reviewers are impressed by the 2013 Audi Q7’s cabin. They say the material quality is fantastic, the design is understated yet elegant and everything is well-assembled.

  • "As is the case with nearly all Audis, the 2013 Audi Q7's interior receives high marks for its understated design and use of top-notch materials." -- Edmunds
  • "True to recent Audi tradition, the interior is where the 2013 Q7 earns its keep. The leather is supple and elegant, and the Dark Brown Walnut wood trim is a fantastic touch." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Like other Audis, the Q7 interior impresses for top-notch furnishings and assembly. Still, cabin decor strikes us as curiously uninspired for a high-end SUV--low on visual warmth and richness, especially when outfitted in gray or black. We think the available beige interior is much more inviting." -- Consumer Guide

The Q7 comes standard with three rows of leather-clad seats. Twelve-way power-adjustable heated front seats are standard. Ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats are optional. Reviewers say the front buckets are comfortable, supportive and spacious. Most reviewers say the middle row also offers plenty of space. Most agree that the third row is best left to smaller children.

  • "The power front seats hold the driver just so. The second row provides ample room but things get cramped in the third row." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Q7 offers as much up-front space and comfort as most any big SUV. That means ample legroom and headroom, plus firm, supportive seats that can be adjusted to suit most any body." -- Consumer Guide
  • "In terms of comfort, adult-sized passengers will be well accommodated in the first two rows. The third row, however, is suitable only for smaller children; most rivals provide quite a bit more space." -- Edmunds
  • "Those generous dimensions should have been a plus for interior volume, too, but that was not the case - the Audi’s second and third rows (standard in all Q7s) were disappointingly snug." -- Car and Driver (2011)

Interior Features

The Q7 comes standard with dual-zone climate control, an 11-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a USB port and rear parking sensors. Available features include quad-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, Audi’s MMI infotainment system with navigation, a Bose or Bang & Olufsen stereo, a rear-seat entertainment system and HD Radio.

Reviewers say that most of the Q7's controls are easy to operate once you learn how to use them. Some reviewers point out that many luxury infotainment systems require familiarization, but they are happy that there are separate buttons to operate the climate system.

  • "MMI still puzzles some of our testers, but others find it as convenient as the latest BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND systems. All three require familiarization, especially by first-timers. At least Audi provides separate ‘hard’ controls for routine climate adjustments, though they, too, are situated too low for easiest use while driving." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The dash is clearly built around the driver, and controls are fairly easy to operate with some practice." -- Edmunds

The Audi Q7 can carry up to 72.5 cubic feet of cargo with the second and third rows folded, which some reviewers find disappointing considering the overall size of the Q7. Behind the second row there is 42 cubic feet of space, and there is 10.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row. Reviewers say that small-item storage is hit or miss. A power liftgate is standard.

  • "Cargo capacity is also less than you'd expect from such a large SUV." -- Edmunds
  • "At least the load deck is flat, and rear seats can be folded without having to remove headrests first. Alas, erecting the folded 3rd-row seats demands a long stretch from the tail or rear doors. Small-items storage includes decent-size door pockets with bottleholders, front/rear cupholders, and a lidded console box in front, but no obvious place for stashing a smartphone or music player." -- Consumer Guide
