2012 Audi Q7 Overview

The 2012 Audi Q7 has sufficient power in most situations with its base supercharged V6, reviewers said, though many preferred the added power of the S Line trim's more powerful supercharged V6. They also liked the turbodiesel V6 model's brisk acceleration. The Q7 comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Equipped with the base engine, the Q7 gets an EPA-estimated 16/22 mpg city/highway, which is on the low end for a V6-powered, all-wheel drive midsize SUV. The diesel model gets 17/25 mpg, which is decent for the class. Most test drivers said the Q7 can be cumbersome to drive because of its large size. However, they praised it for its composed ride.

Test drivers said the 2012 Audi Q7’s cabin is well-constructed, but some found the design a bit bland. Reviewers said the front seats are roomy and comfortable and that head- and legroom are adequate in the second row. Space is at a premium in the third row and is probably best left to kids, they added, as some were surprised that the Q7's large exterior size doesn't translate to more interior space. The Q7 has up to 72.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Most rival three-row SUVs have more cavernous cargo holds. The 2012 Q7 comes standard with Audi's MMI infotainment interface, an 11-speaker CD audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a power tailgate, leather seats, heated and power-adjustable front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. Available features include ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, four-zone climate control, HD Radio, voice-controlled navigation with a 7-inch screen, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 14-speaker Bose or Bang and Olufsen audio system and a panoramic sunroof. Several auto writers said the Q7’s infotainment system is complicated and takes time to master.

Other SUVs to Consider

The 2012 Lincoln MKT has a bit more cargo space than the Q7, and test drivers liked its attractive cabin design. Reviewers were also pleased with the MKT's poised handling, compliant ride and powerful turbocharged engine.

Test drivers were impressed with the power offered by the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport’s standard V8 engine, as well as its attractive cabin and top-shelf interior materials. Auto writers said the Range Rover Sport has impressive road manners, excellent handling and is extremely capable off-road.
