2009 Audi Q7 Review

The 2009 Audi Q7 has an elegant design, flexible cargo configurations and great safety scores. Test drivers loved its new-for-2009 TDI diesel engine, but complained about the cramped available third row.

Pros & Cons

  • Available fuel-efficient diesel engine
  • Good safety scores
  • Well-made, luxurious interior
  • Standard all-wheel drive
  • Not very fun to drive
  • Cramped third-row seats

2009 Audi Q7 Overview

In general, reviewers liked the 2009 Audi Q7. They noted that it emphasizes interior comfort over practicality, and that it has lots of standard features and a well-designed cabin. They also loved its available TDI diesel engine, which improves fuel economy and still provides plenty of power. However, they also said the 2009 Audi Q7 is not the most practical SUV. Fuel economy from gas-powered V6 and V8 engines is unimpressive, though not uncommon for the class, and test drivers noted that the V6 engine doesn’t feel powerful enough.

The 2009 Audi Q7 comes with a V6, V8 or a turbodiesel V6 engine. All trims come standard with all-wheel drive, leather seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. Opting for higher Premium, Prestige or Premium Plus trim levels will add features like six-step heated front seats, parking sensors, a wooden shift knob and navigation.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class runs neck and neck with the 2009 Q7 in many ways. Though the base all-wheel drive M-Class and Q7 have comparable fuel economy, you can save on fuel by getting an M-Class with rear-wheel drive. Like the Q7, the M-Class has an available diesel engine.

The 2009 Acura MDX is another well-liked used luxury midsize SUV. Test drivers noted that the MDX is actually fun to drive for a three-row SUV, though its fuel economy isn’t much better than the Q7. The MDX gets similar safety scores to the Audi, and reviewers appreciated its attractive, ergonomically-designed cabin.
