2013 Audi Q5 Overview

Is the 2013 Audi Q5 a Good Used SUV?

For sure – the 2013 Audi Q5 is a good used SUV. The Q5 might be one of the highest priced models in the luxury compact SUV class, but you get what you pay for. A well-designed cabin, classy interior materials, and carlike handling are just a few of its attributes.

Used 2013 Audi Q5 Performance and Interior

A 211-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 258 pound-feet of torque powers the standard 2013 Audi Q5. With the base engine, the Q5 gets 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway – a great rating for this class. The base engine paired with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission produces plenty of power for everyday driving maneuvers, but this engine can feel strained when going uphill over long periods of time. The new-for-2013 supercharged V6 gets rid of this issue with more spirited acceleration. A tight turning radius makes it easy for this luxury compact SUV to make sharp turning maneuvers, but ride quality can feel firm.

For 2013, Audi added a hybrid to the lineup, which has a powertrain made up of a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. It has no problem passing slower cars on the highway, but its major strength is fuel efficiency. The Q5 Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. All-wheel drive (which Audi calls Quattro) is standard.

If you’re looking for a visually pleasing cabin with high-end materials, the Q5 is a great option. Its cabin has soft-touch leather seats with attractive wood accents. All five seats are roomy and comfortable, and there’s a good amount of head- and legroom in the first and second rows. There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the outboard rear seats. Not everything is perfect, however; the standard MMI infotainment system has inconveniently placed controls.

All models include tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Higher trim levels come with features like xenon headlights, a power tailgate, a sunroof, heated front seats, navigation, an upgraded audio system, HD Radio, and Bluetooth.

How Safe Is the Q5?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Q5 a 2013 Top Safety Pick designation and gave it the highest rating of Good in four crash safety tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it four out of five stars in rollover testing. Rain-sensing wipers are standard. You might find a 2013 Q5 with driver assistance features that were optional when it was new, like adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and blind spot monitoring.

Is the 2013 Q5 the Best Model Year to Buy?

The 2013 Audi Q5 is part of a generation that started in 2009 and includes the 2017 model year. The Q5 saw quite a few updates between 2012 and 2013. The 2013 Q5 gained a supercharged V6 engine, the Q5 Hybrid model, and a slight interior and exterior refresh. That said, if a hybrid powertrain and a supercharged V6 aren’t must-haves for you, you can save a considerable amount of money by purchasing an older model.

Which Used Audi Q5 Is Right for Me?

The Q5 comes in five trims: 2.0T Premium, 2.0T Premium Plus, 3.0T Premium Plus, 3.0T Prestige, and Hybrid Prestige. The base model is capable enough, but if you’re looking for a few more amenities and a more powerful engine, you may want to consider the 3.0T Premium Plus. It gets a V6 engine and adds features like heated front seats, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a sunroof. If you favor a more fuel-efficient vehicle, go for the hybrid. It adds features over the 3.0T Premium Plus, like an upgraded audio system and a rearview camera.

For further peace of mind, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned vehicle. Audi CPO vehicles receive the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, then enjoy an additional two-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read the Audi warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass a 300-plus point inspection. The model's original sale date determines whether it is eligible for the CPO program.

2013 Audi Q5 and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi Q5 or 2013 BMW X3?

Both the Q5 and the 2013 BMW X3 have sporty driving dynamics, but the X3 is a little more fun to drive. Both SUVs have the same reliability ratings, close safety scores, and hard-to-use infotainment systems. The BMW has a well-made cabin with ample room for front and rear occupants, but the Audi comes with standard leather upholstery. These SUVs are so close in our rankings that you will be satisfied no matter which one you choose. The Q5 has a better balance of agility and comfort, and the X3 favors performance over comfort. Both luxury compact SUVs have similar ownership costs, so your best bet is to test drive each vehicle to see which one better fits your needs.

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi Q5 or 2013 Volvo XC60?

The 2013 Volvo XC60 has more cargo space and lower ownership costs than the Q5, but it falters with its below-average reliability score. Both SUVs have high-quality interiors and powerful engines, but the XC60’s cabin lets in a bit more road noise. The Q5 is the better choice.

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi Q5 or 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class?

In terms of performance and interior, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class is merely average. It has nice-looking cabin materials and good visibility all-around, but its small back seats require passengers to squish themselves in. Additionally, the interior technology is tricky to use. The Mercedes has a more powerful base engine, but the Audi has sportier handling. The GLK-Class is better in terms of its above-average reliability and safety scores. Both luxury compact SUVs have similar ownership costs, but overall, the Q5 is still the superior vehicle.
