2011 Audi Q5 Overview

When it was new, reviewers said the 2011 Audi Q5 was one of the most well-rounded compact luxury crossovers on the market. Its interior is not the biggest, but its base engine is very fuel-efficient, its interior is well-crafted and reviewers said it ably balances sporty handling and a comfortable ride.

The base Q5 2.0T has a 211-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes the Q5 one of the most fuel-efficient offerings in the class, with an EPA-estimated 20/27 mpg city/highway. Testers said the 2.0T is plenty powerful for most, but if you want more power, the Q5 3.2 has a 270-horsepower six-cylinder engine. With that engine, the Q5 gets an estimated 18/23 mpg city/highway. All-wheel drive is standard on all models.

Critics found the Q5’s cabin to be well-built and well-appointed, with comfortable seats all around, despite the usual gripes about limited rear legroom. The Q5’s rear seats slide fore and aft for more rear passenger legroom or cargo room, which is a feature few others in the segment have. With the rear seats folded, the Q5 can carry 57.3 cubic feet of cargo, which is slightly less than what’s typical for the class. Leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, Audi’s Multi Media Interface infotainment system and satellite radio are all standard. Option packages add features like Bluetooth, a panoramic sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker stereo and a backup camera. The Q5 has been out since 2009, so you may be able to save some money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Q5, you may also like the 2011 BMW X3. Testers said the X3 is one of the most sports car-like offerings among 2011 compact SUVs, and reviewers generally preferred the back seat in the X3 to the one in the Q5. Keep in mind that its base engine isn’t as fuel-efficient as the Audi’s, but it is still fairly thrifty for the class.

Another 2011 compact SUV to consider is the 2011 Infiniti EX. Critics regarded the EX as one of the most potent performers in the class, with a standard 297-horsepower V6. It also has one of the lowest cargo capacities in the class, so it may not be the best choice for families.
