2009 Audi Q5 Review

The Audi Q5 was all-new for 2009, and reviewers said it delivers excellent performance, good fuel economy and a comfortable, well-made interior. As far as 2009 luxury compact SUVs go, auto critics agreed the Q5 is one of the best choices available.

Pros & Cons

  • Upscale interior
  • Refined, sporty handling
  • Excellent safety ratings
  • Somewhat limited cargo space

2009 Audi Q5 Overview

When it was new, critics said the 2009 Q5 has taut, athletic handling, as well as a smooth, comfortable ride. They were also impressed with its luxurious five-seat cabin. The Q5 received excellent crash test scores. The Q5’s fuel economy is about average for the class.

Powering the 2009 Audi Q5 is a 270-horsepower V6 that testers said made plenty of power for acceleration and passing. Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive is standard, and critics liked the traction and stability it provides. Upper trim levels are available with Audi Drive Select, which allows the driver to adjust drivetrain and suspension settings to desired levels of sportiness or comfort. The Q5 earns an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 18/23 mpg city/highway, which is typical for the class. The Q5 can carry up to 57.3 cubic feet of cargo, which is about average.

Critics remarked that the Q5’s interior was very comfortable and fitted with high-quality materials. While most said the front seats were spacious, opinions on the back seats were mixed, which is common for the class. Three trim levels are available. The base trim comes standard with features like leather seats, a 10-speaker stereo and tri-zone climate control, while Bluetooth and satellite radio were optional. Upper trim levels and option packages have features like a panoramic sunroof, power liftgate, a backup camera, a Bang & Olufsen stereo and Audi’s Multi Media Interface infotainment system.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Q5, you may also like the 2009 BMW X3. The X3 is one of the best-handling vehicles among 2009 compact SUVs, and it also has greater cargo-carrying capacity than the Q5. Keep in mind that some critics found the X3’s ride to be a bit harsh, so it may not be the best choice for those looking for a comfortable family or commuting vehicle.

Another 2009 compact SUV you may like is the 2009 Infiniti EX. The EX also has sport-sedan-like handling and sprightly performance, thanks to its powerful V6. On the downside, the EX has one of the smallest cargo capacities in the class, so it isn’t a great choice for those looking for practicality.
