2019 Audi Q3 Interior Review

Interior: 8.3

The redesigned 2019 Audi Q3 has arguably the nicest cabin in the class. It looks great and boasts modern styling and lots of upscale materials. It feels spacious, and both rows of seats can comfortably accommodate adult passengers. There are plenty of user-friendly tech features and a good amount of cargo room behind the rear seats.

  • "The interior – from the design to the materials to the ergonomics – is right there with Volvo as best-in-class. It's still very clean and German, but it no longer feels like a budget model, one of the weaknesses of the outgoing Q3." -- Autoblog
  • "On the inside, the excellent use of materials and geometry gives the cabin a spacious and premium feeling." -- Edmunds
  • "The Q3's interior is well sorted and has the most modern feel in the segment. Leather is standard, and the seating position is vastly improved, with an airy greenhouse and a panoramic sunroof. Synthetic suede divides the dash horizontally (it's also available on the armrests)." -- Car and Driver

The 2019 Q3 seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and sliding and reclining rear seats. Front sport seats with added side support are available.

Up front, occupants enjoy good visibility and comfortable seats, though more spirited drivers may long for more side bolstering if they don't opt for the sport seats. While small, the cabin feels spacious, and the rear seats provide ample room for adult passengers. Even taller riders can get comfortable in the back thanks to the rear seats' ability to slide and recline.

For securing child safety seats, the Q3 has two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats, as well as an upper tether on the rear middle seat.

  • "In the real-world everyday environment, the new Q3 feels reasonably compact, but it's now much better at carrying four adults and their gear in good comfort." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Rear-seat passengers won't forget they're in a subcompact SUV, but at 6 feet tall, I'm surprisingly comfortable thanks to a standard sliding and reclining second row." -- CNET
  • "The front seats proved comfortable over a long day of driving, though I do wish there was a bit more lateral support. The biggest issue with all-day comfort is some mild wind noise from the A-pillars." -- Autoblog

Interior Features

Standard features in the Q3 include dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and the MMI infotainment system with an 8.8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four USB ports, Bluetooth, a 10-speaker audio system, and HD Radio.

Standard driver assistance features include a rearview camera, Audi Pre Sense Basic (helps protect occupants by rolling up windows and tightening seat belts if it detects an imminent collision), and Audi Pre Sense Front (a type of forward collision warning) with pedestrian detection.

Available features include Audi's Virtual Cockpit, wireless device charging, remote start, and an upgraded MMI system with a 10.1-inch touch screen, handwriting recognition, navigation, satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Available active safety features include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.

The MMI infotainment system works wonderfully. The controls and touch screen are easy to see and reach from the driver's seat, and the interface is much simpler than in some rival SUVs. The screen responds quickly to inputs, and its crisp graphics make it easy to read menus or analyze surroundings when using the backup or surround-view parking cameras.

The available handwriting recognition is a nifty and useful feature, and the Q3 offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, which you can't find in most other luxury vehicles.

  • "This is the first use of the brand's haptic touchscreen in a single-display application, as opposed to the two-screen approach that's used in larger Audis. The system responds rapidly and renders the backup camera and available bird's-eye view in high resolution. The presence of analog HVAC controls in the new Q3 is a welcome change over Audi's ostensibly more advanced two-touchscreen setup." -- Car and Driver
  • "The infotainment is … plenty fast, plenty pretty and while it lacks the digitized climate controls of its more expensive brethren, it still feels more premium than any other offering in the segment. It's far less confusing than Volvo's Sensus Connect, that's for sure. Of the two USB ports up front, one is USB-C, which is great if you appreciate fast phone charging." -- CNET
  • "The center infotainment screen has moved from looking like a tablet perched atop the dashboard to a lower position in the center stack. This screen and the climate controls beneath it are turned slightly toward the driver, making them easier for drivers to see and reach." -- Consumer Reports

The Q3 provides 23.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 48 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. That's a lot of space behind the rear seats, though many luxury subcompact SUV rivals have a higher maximum capacity.

A power liftgate comes standard, and a hands-free power liftgate is available.

  • "The whole shebang feels a bit bigger than before, and it is -- it's 3.8 inches longer, although the height is about the same. That extra length brings benefits out back, where cargo capacity grows by nearly 50 percent." -- CNET
  • "The rear seating area is more functional, too, with a reclining seatback and nearly 6 inches of fore-aft sliding space. Together, this gives the Q3 a broad variety of cargo and person-carrying capacity." -- Edmunds
  • "In back, the cargo area aft of the rear seat has grown … while the back seat, now with an adjustable backrest, slides fore/aft 5.9 inches to help this compact Audi SUV accommodate tall passengers or bulky cargo." -- Kelley Blue Book
