The 2019 Audi Allroad is more athletic than most other wagons, and it does well in pretty much every driving situation. It rides smoothly, handles confidently, and can even partake in some mild off-road duty. The Allroad’s standard all-wheel drive is one advantage it has over most competitors.

Acceleration and Power

The Audi Allroad features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 248 horsepower. It’s paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There's a slight hesitation when you punch the gas, but beyond that, the engine delivers plenty of power and quick acceleration for all driving situations.

Fuel economy estimates for the 2019 Allroad are subpar for the class, at 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Most other wagons – even the nonhybrids – get better gas mileage.

Handling and Braking

The Allroad provides plenty of athleticism, by wagon standards. It's composed and relatively agile on winding roads, with sharp steering. It rides smoothly even over rough pavement, and it soaks up bumps equally well at city and highway speeds. Though it lacks the ground clearance of a truck or SUV, the Allroad can still handle some light off-roading without issue.

There are five modes (Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Individual, and Off-Road) to choose from that alter driving dynamics to suit your preferences. With the Allroad, you can actually tell the difference between these settings, which isn’t the case with some rivals. An adaptive air suspension is available, and the Allroad comes standard with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
