The 2018 Audi A4 Allroad has the high-quality cabin you expect from an Audi. The design looks great, and the quality of materials is outstanding. Both rows of seats are comfortable and spacious, and the Allroad’s infotainment system is user-friendly. Cargo space is average for a wagon.
The Allroad has a roomy cabin with seating for five. The front seats are supportive, and both rows of seats have plenty of legroom. The rear seats also have ample headroom for taller passengers. The only time the Allroad feels cramped is when three adults are sitting in the back seat, but even that is only be a problem on longer drives.
There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. The middle seat has a tether anchor, but no lower anchors. The lower anchors are easy to find and require little force when installing a car seat. The tether anchors are also easy to locate.
The Allroad’s standard features include a panoramic sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, HD Radio, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 5-inch driver information display, a rearview camera, Audi Pre Sense Basic, Audi Pre Sense City, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system with a 7-inch display.
Optional features include satellite radio, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system, an 8.3-inch center screen, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit display, navigation, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, Audi Pre Sense Rear, and a head-up display. Additional available features include rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go sensing, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, a top-view camera system, collision avoidance assistance, and Audi Connect services, which include emergency responder notification, roadside assistance, voice-control navigation, real-time traffic updates, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
You control the standard MMI infotainment system with a knob on the center console, and it works better than some rivals' setups. The available touch-screen MMI system has sharp graphics and recognizes handwriting in addition to responding to normal touch inputs. The only downside is that some of the controls are hard to reach. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto give you easy smartphone connectivity, and they come standard, unlike in some competitors.
The A4 Allroad has a typical amount of cargo space for a wagon, providing 24.2 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 58.5 cubic feet with them folded down. The rear seat split-folds 40/20/40, so you can fold down part of it for extra space while leaving some of the seating intact. That's also a little more versatile than some competitors, which only offer 60/40 split-folding seats.
The Allroad's cargo hold adds usability with its multiple tie-down points. When folded, the rear seat is nearly flat, giving you a nice cargo floor. There's also a relatively low liftover height, making it easier to load heavy items. However, the slanted back window may make it hard to fit bulky cargo. A power liftgate comes standard, and a hands-free power liftgate is available.
