2021 Audi A7 Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.8

The 2021 Audi A7 has a posh yet practical interior. The cabin is stylish and trimmed with quality materials, there’s ample seating space in both rows, the cargo hold is vast, and many advanced tech and safety features are available. The A7’s dual-screen infotainment system is intuitive, but it can demand a little too much attention from the driver.

  • "Few automakers do interiors better than Audi. Materials inside the A7 are superb, fit and finish are exemplary and practically every touched surface exudes sophistication." -- Autotrader
  • "Interior noise levels are practically imperceptible, and the interior’s stunning design and high-tech dash further add to the feeling you’re behind the wheel of something special." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Beyond the screens, the cabin is well finished and rational, although lacking the theater of the more extravagant interior in the Mercedes-Benz CLS." -- Car and Driver (2019)

Cargo

The Audi A7 has more cargo space than any other vehicle in the luxury large car class, thanks in large part to its hatchback layout. The rear liftgate opens to reveal a spacious 24.9 cubic feet of room. Folding the 40/20/40-split rear seats allow for even more carrying capacity.

  • "Underneath the A7's useful power-operated liftback, we fit seven carry-on bags behind its split-folding rear seat. The car also held 20 bags of luggage with the seats folded flat. Likewise, we managed to fit a golf bag and stroller in the cargo area." -- Car and Driver
  • "What the A7 lacks in rear headroom it makes up for in expanded cargo space vs. that of a traditional sedan." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The hatchback design gives the A7 more cargo room and space flexibility than the A6 sedan and other competing four-doors. Since the A7 is a hatchback, the cargo area has a flat, wide space with side pockets, tiedown rings and LED strips. There's nowhere to stow the cargo cover if you don't want it, but at least it's short." -- Edmunds (2020)

Seating

The Audi A7 has five seats. The front seats are comfortable and spacious enough even for taller occupants, and visibility is good in all directions. The rear seats are roomy enough for two adults to sit comfortably, with headroom being the limiting factor.

Leather upholstery and heated front seats are standard. Ventilated and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and rear sunshades are available.

There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the A7’s rear outboard seats, along with a tether-only connection for the rear middle seat.

  • "The A7 also provides a satisfying driving position that is complemented by excellent outward visibility. Rear-seat passengers receive climate controls, power points for charging devices, and even heated seats, which are all optional. While the back seat comfortably accommodates two adults, three full-size frames would be cramped." -- Car and Driver
  • "Overall interior room is sufficient for four adults, but rear headroom is compromised a bit by the A7’s sloping roofline." -- Kelley Blue Book (2020)
  • "Also as before, there's plenty of room to stretch out in front, while rear-seat passengers have surprisingly decent legroom (a bit more than before, in fact), and adequate headroom for a pair of 6-footers (taller if they're willing to slouch a bit)." -- CNET (2019)

Interior Features

The A7’s standard features include 8.8-inch upper and 8.6-inch lower touch screens, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, satellite radio, 10 speakers, tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, a power liftgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

The A7’s dual-screen infotainment system looks sleek, and it’s fairly easy to use after a bit of practice. The upper screen handles the radio and navigation functions, as well as any apps like Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The lower screen controls the air conditioning and vehicle settings. Critics argue that the system is more distracting to use than traditional buttons and knobs, especially when driving.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights with automatic high beams, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.

Available features include a 10.1-inch upper touch screen, wireless device charging, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster (Audi Virtual Cockpit), 16- and 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereos, quad-zone automatic climate control, and power soft-closing doors.

Available safety features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a surround-view parking camera system, a night vision camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a head-up display, and traffic sign recognition.

  • "The dual-screen infotainment system has a learning curve, but we expect just about anyone would get the hang of it after a week or so. The lower screen is able to recognize handwritten inputs, but the system also allows voice commands using natural speech. It even responds to pinch-and-zoom and swipe gestures just like your smartphone." -- Autotrader
  • "Every A7 features a dazzling infotainment system with dual touchscreens that seamlessly integrate into the dashboard and center console. The large icons are easy to locate and the haptic feedback is satisfying, but the setup is undeniably distracting because they often require the driver to take their eyes off the road." -- Car and Driver
  • "Audi’s all-new MMI dual-screen Touch Response system has replaced the familiar rotary dial and conventional infotainment controls of the previous-generation A6 and A7, but the jury’s still out on how much easier the system works, especially when the car is in motion. … Like a touchpad, both require the driver to take his or her eyes off the road to operate, sometimes longer than just the quick glance needed to operate a knob or button." -- Kelley Blue Book
