2012 Audi A7 Review

Test drivers were impressed with the 2012 Audi A7’s potent engine, nimble handling and stunning interior design, but said its rear seats don't have abundant headroom.

Pros & Cons

  • Strong acceleration
  • Standard all-wheel drive
  • Class-leading cargo space
  • Cramped rear headroom

2012 Audi A7 Overview

The 2012 Audi A7 comes standard with a supercharged V6 that reviewers agreed has ample power for fast acceleration. The A7 comes standard with an eight-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is also standard, which is unusual in this class. According to the EPA, the 2012 Audi A7 gets 18/28 mpg city/highway, which is in line with that of rivals. Reviewers said the A7 has a comfortable, composed ride and feels agile while cornering. They also wrote that the A7’s brakes are strong and linear, but added that the steering system is a little numb.

Reviewers were impressed with the Audi A7’s gorgeous interior styling and lavish materials. They said the four-seat A7’s front seats are spacious and comfortable, though many found that the A7’s sloping roofline means back-seat headroom is limited for taller passengers. With its hatchback design, the 2012 A7 has far more cargo space than other cars in the class at 24.5 cubic feet. Standard features include a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, Bluetooth, satellite radio and Audi’s MMI infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display screen. Available features include adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a night vision system, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a Bose or Bang & Olufsen sound system, an in-car Wi-Fi system, navigation with integrated Google Earth and a touchpad with handwriting recognition for entering navigation or phone information. Some reviewers wrote that the MMI system has a bit of a learning curve, but complimented the attractive navigation display.

Other Cars to Consider

Reviewers wrote that the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a beautiful interior and a very spacious rear seat. They also said the V8-powered E550 is incredibly fast.

Automotive journalists noted that the 2012 Jaguar XF is one of the most fun-to-drive cars in the class, with a powerful standard V8 engine, athletic handling and accurate, nicely weighted steering. They were also impressed with its opulent interior and large trunk.
