2019 Audi A6 Interior Review

Interior: 7.7

The 2019 Audi A6 has a rich, high-end interior with premium materials and a sleek design. A new, user-friendly touch-screen interface debuts, and passenger space is ample in every seating position. Cargo room is below average for the class, though.

  • "The dashboard design may take some getting used to, as the large expanses of piano-black plastic and metal-look trim that frame the touchscreens depart from Audi’s typical minimalism. (Remember, this is a company that uses nav screens that retract into the dashboards of some models.)" -- Car and Driver
  • "Audi’s winning streak of beautiful interior design continues in the 2019 A6." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "We clambered into a Euro-spec interior with full leather seats and wood trim that essentially matches what we get in the U.S. It’s tastefully done, with a mix of modern, business, and cozy." -- Motor Trend

The Audi A6 seats five people on standard leather upholstery with heated and eight-way power-adjustable front seats. Options include heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, Valcona leather upholstery, and 12- or 18-way power-adjustable front seats. The A6 has two complete LATCH connections on the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the middle seat. All seats are comfortable and critics note the expanded legroom in the second row over the outgoing model. The cabin stays quiet and serene, even at high speeds.

  • "Speaking of road noise, that’s another big change for the A6: It’s incredibly quiet on the open road. … Still, even with the engine online, the A6 is as quiet as a Buick, thanks largely to double-pane glass and improved door seals that block out wind and road noise." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Inside, the new A6 is a bit more spacious than its predecessor. All passengers enjoy comfortable and supportive seats, and rear occupants get a half-inch more legroom than before." -- CNET
  • "Open the soft-closing door, and you will find comfortable new seats that are ventilated and have a choice of massage settings: not too soft, not too hard, just right. It has an air ionizer with cabin fragrance and soothing ambient lighting. … The cabin is quiet with little road or engine noise wafting inside. … It has more legroom front and back." -- Motor Trend

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2019 Audi A6 include tri-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a panoramic sunroof. The A6's infotainment system features a dual-display touch-screen interface, Bluetooth, three USB ports, a 10-speaker stereo, HD Radio, satellite radio, voice-control navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. A rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking are all standard as well.

Optional features include quad-zone automatic climate control, a power rear-window sunshade, manual rear-side-window sunshades, proximity key entry, push-button start, power soft-closing doors, a 16- or 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, wireless device charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and a 10.1-inch upper infotainment screen. Optional driver assistance features include a head-up display, automatic high beams, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, intersection crossing assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a night vision assistant with pedestrian detection.

The infotainment system features a dual-screen setup, with either an 8.8- or 10.1-inch touch screen up top and an 8.6-inch screen below it. This interface uses haptic touch response instead of a physical control knob, and it processes your commands quickly.

  • "The touchscreen replaces nearly every hard button and knob—and the old MMI setup had quite a few of them—with two haptic-feedback touchscreens. We found touchscreen performance was good but not perfect, although with a little practice we expect we’d better get the hang of 'triggering' our finger presses. … Overall, the system is intuitive and impressive, but its menus can run deep. And Audi forbids changing most settings while the car is in motion—including those of the audio system—which is the only glaring flaw we could find in our brief test. Thankfully, the volume knob has survived." -- Car and Driver
  • "Our fears that the Audi system would be as clumsy as other entertainment systems that rely on touch-sensitive controls are immediately dismissed. The system works quickly and emits sounds similar to the satisfying clicks made by the old control knob. The response time is very good, and the high-resolution screens and large icons make it a breeze to navigate. In one stroke, Audi has made the now-ubiquitous control knob old hat." -- Edmunds
  • "Audi’s winning streak of beautiful interior design continues in the 2019 A6. The focus is more toward tactility than on 'luxury,' with a future-forward aesthetic including two center displays for Audi’s MMI touch response operating system." -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2019 Audi A6 has 13.7 cubic feet of trunk space, which is below average for the class. A 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat is standard, and a hands-free power trunk is optional.

  • "The trunk offers space to accommodate ventures to the store, enough luggage for a road trip or a couple sets of golf clubs." -- CNET
  • "Trunk space is wider, and you can wave your foot to close the trunk lid when your arms are full." -- Motor Trend
