2015 Audi A6 Overview

Is the 2015 Audi A6 a Good Used Car?

Despite its midpack ranking, the 2015 Audi A6 is still a great car. Powerful engines and athletic cornering contribute to engaging performance, and few rivals match the A6's opulent cabin.

Used 2015 Audi A6 Performance and Interior

The 2015 Audi A6 boasts impressive performance for a luxury midsize sedan. The standard powertrain is a 220-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an automatic continuously variable transmission. Also available is a 310-horsepower supercharged V6 engine with an automatic eight-speed transmission. The smaller four-cylinder punches above its weight, while the supercharged V6 and its smooth-shifting transmission deliver swift acceleration. You might also find Audi A6 models with a turbodiesel V6 engine, though availability is limited following the Volkswagen/Audi emissions scandal and recall. The king of the A6's lineup is the high-performance Audi S6, with its 420-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 engine and seven-speed automatic transmission.

FrontTrak front-wheel drive is standard, while all V6 models come with Quattro all-wheel drive. The A6 has nimble handling and strong brakes, and the ride quality is comfortable over most surfaces. Models with an available sport suspension or larger wheels are sportier, but they have a stiffer ride.

The standard four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive A6 gets good fuel economy estimates for the class, at 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Four-cylinder Quattro models see a decrease to 20 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway, while V6 models come in at 18/27 mpg city/highway.

The Audi A6 has one of the nicest interiors in its class, with standard leather upholstery and real wood and metal trim. Up front, the standard heated seats are comfortable and supportive, and the second row features a good amount of legroom for taller passengers. Heated rear seats and ventilated front seats are also available. The A6 has two complete second-row LATCH child-seat connections and an extra top tether anchor.

Standard features in the 2015 A6 include tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system. This system's interface uses a main controller knob on the center console and is straightforward and easy to use. Other available features include four-zone climate control, HD Radio, proximity keyless entry, a navigation system, an infotainment touch pad with handwriting recognition, and a premium Bose sound system.

Should I Consider Another Used A6?

The 2015 A6 is part of the car’s fourth generation, which began with a full redesign for the 2012 model year. The 2015 model saw a handful of changes – mostly the addition of available features and packages. If these changes aren’t important to you, consider buying an older model to save money.

Which Used Audi A6 Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Audi A6 is available in three main trim levels – Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige – in addition to the performance S6 model. You'll want to consider models with the V6 engine (designated 3.0T), all of which come with Quattro all-wheel drive. In terms of trim level, the Premium Plus is the best value, with convenience features like a rearview camera, parking sensors, keyless entry, and navigation.

You could also consider a certified pre-owned A6. Audi CPO vehicles receive the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, then enjoy an additional two-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read the Audi warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass an inspection covering 300-plus points.

2015 Audi A6 and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A6 or 2015 BMW 5 Series?

The 2015 BMW 5 Series isn't as good of a car as the Audi A6 overall. While the 5 Series has a vast array of powerful available engines, it lacks the sharp handling of the A6 and instead focuses on comfort. The Audi gets higher safety and reliability scores and has a slight edge in interior quality. One advantage the 5 Series offers is its availability in numerous other configurations. You can find a hatchback 5 Series Gran Turismo with ample passenger and cargo room, or very fuel-efficient diesel or hybrid models.

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A6 or 2015 Lexus GS?

The 2015 Lexus GS stands out with a very high reliability score, but it's no slouch to drive, either. A standard V6 engine delivers plenty of pep, and it also has responsive steering and athletic handling. Both the A6 and the GS have an elegant cabin, so if you're looking for luxury, neither will disappoint. However, the GS gets docked for its cumbersome infotainment controls.

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A6 or 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Like the Lexus GS, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a very high predicted reliability rating. In most other areas, though, the A6 and E-Class are pretty competitive. Both models offer several muscular powertrains, composed handling, and a comfortable ride. There is plenty of seating space for passengers, and interior quality is top-notch. You might experience a slight learning curve with the E-Class' infotainment system and features, but it shouldn't dissuade you from considering this Mercedes.
