2012 Audi A6 Overview

The 2012 A6 comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Most auto journalists said the available supercharged V6 has brisk acceleration. The turbo four model comes with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while the supercharged V6 model comes with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. The turbocharged four-cylinder model gets an EPA-estimated 25/33 mpg city/highway, which is very good for the class. Test drivers reported that the 2012 Audi A6 feels quite nimble and that it rides softly over road imperfections. However, some complained that it lacks steering feedback and has a slightly spongy feeling brake pedal.

Automotive journalists wrote that the 2012 Audi A6 has one of the most beautifully made interiors in the class, with an elegant design and first-rate materials. The A6’s front seats are comfortable, said test drivers. They wrote that its rear seat is spacious enough for two 6-foot passengers to ride comfortably. At 14.1 cubic feet, the A6’s trunk space is low for the class. Standard features in the 2012 A6 include a sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, satellite radio, Bluetooth, an iPod input and push-button start. Available features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, a night vision display, pedestrian detection, front and rear parking sensors, a Bose or Bang & Olufsen sound system and an upgraded infotainment system with a 7-inch display screen, navigation and a touchpad input with handwriting recognition. The automotive press agreed that the A6's infotainment system is easy to master.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec has a turbodiesel V6 that gets good fuel economy for the class. The E-Class sedan has a bit more trunk space than the A6, and automotive journalists said it has top-notch cabin materials and generously sized rear seats.

Reviewers reported that the 2012 BMW 5-Series has both sporty handling and a supple ride. An all-wheel drive 5-Series gets better fuel economy than the A6, whether it is equipped with the base four-cylinder or available six-cylinder engine.
