2009 Audi A6 Overview

When it was new, reviewers agreed that if you’re looking for a luxury sedan, the 2009 Audi A6 should be on your shopping list. Reviewers felt that the base front-wheel drive A6 3.2 was underpowered, but they liked the additional power from the A6 3.0T and 4.2 models, which also feature all-wheel drive. Most reviewers agreed that the 3.0T trim was the A6 of choice, thanks to its fun driving dynamics and good fuel economy. A6 3.2 and 3.0T models get 18/27 and 18/26 mpg city/highway, respectively, while the A6 4.2 gets 16/23 mpg. With FWD, reviewers agreed that the A6’s handling was adequate. However, most agreed that models with AWD offered driving experiences that are among the best in the class.

Inside, test drivers found the A6 offered excellent interior quality and an appealing design. The one weakness they reported was they found Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) confusing and took time to learn, though it was still more intuitive than BMW’s iDrive. Tech features aside, test drivers said the A6’s interior offers high-quality fit and finish, noting the fine wood trim and metal accents, as well as its comfortable seats.

The base Premium trim comes standard with a sunroof, leather upholstery, power front seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, satellite radio and an iPod interface. Features available on higher trims include larger wheels, a backup camera, push-button start, navigation and an upgraded stereo. The A6 earns excellent safety ratings, which should appeal to shoppers looking for a safe car.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re seeking a refined interior and good performance, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class should be on your list. Additionally, reviewers loved the E-Class’ well-rounded performance and high-quality interior when it was new.

With engaging performance and numerous drivetrain configurations, the 2009 BMW 5-Series is a luxury car that’s also fun to drive. The 5-Series has a lower safety score than the A6, but many reviewers considered it the sport sedan benchmark within its class. The base A6 and 5-Series both earn comparable fuel economy estimates, but the A6’s larger trunk may make it a bit more practical.
