Pros & Cons

  • Attractive, top-quality cabin
  • Standard all-wheel drive

  • Complicated base infotainment system
  • Tight rear headroom

2015 Audi A5 Overview

Is the 2015 Audi A5 a Good Used Car?

The 2015 Audi A5 is a good car if you’re looking for a grand touring vehicle as opposed to a sporty small car. It comes in both coupe and cabriolet (convertible) body styles. The base turbocharged engine is good for day-to-day driving, and two available engines deliver excellent horsepower. Inside, the interior balances an eye-catching design with functionality. It pays to shop higher-end trims, though. Base-model seats lack lateral support, while the base infotainment system complicates what should be one- or two-touch tasks.

Used 2015 Audi A5 Performance and Interior

The A5 has three available engines ranging from the base turbocharged, 220-horsepower four-cylinder to the 450-horsepower V8 in the RS 5. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and an eight-speed automatic is available (standard in the A5 cabriolet). Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard. Though the A5 sports a racy looking exterior, it rides like a touring car. The focus is on comfort, with little body roll and a relaxing ride. A sport-tuned suspension is available in the A5 and standard in S5 and RS 5 models.

According to the EPA, the base 2015 A5 coupe with a manual transmission gets up to 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The RS 5 gets 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

The 2015 Audi A5 seats four on leather upholstery. Power-adjustable front seats are standard. Heated front seats and sport seats are available. Front head- and legroom are ample, but rear-seat headroom is minimal.

Among the A5’s standard features are a tri-zone automatic climate system, Bluetooth for phone, a 10-speaker stereo, satellite radio, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system, which includes a 6.5-inch display. Available features include a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a 7-inch MMI system with navigation, Bluetooth audio, and Wi-Fi access.

The A5 cabriolet has 10.2 cubic feet of trunk space with the top up or down, which is good for a convertible. The coupe’s 12.2 cubic feet of cargo space is average for the segment. Split-folding rear seats for the coupe and convertible make it easier to store larger items.

Should I Consider Another Used A5?

The Audi A5 debuted for the 2008 model year, and its first generation ran through the 2017 model year. The 2013 model saw significant changes, including updated interior and exterior styling, the introduction of the RS 5 trim, a new engine for the S5 coupe, and the availability of Audi Connect. For 2014, the base engine received a power upgrade, and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity became standard. The 2015 cabriolet models made all-wheel drive a standard feature. If you want to save some money by purchasing an earlier model, the 2014 with the more potent base engine is the best choice.

Which Used Audi A5 Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Audi A5 comes in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. The base Premium trim includes three-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, four-way power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver's seat, a 10-speaker radio with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and – in cabriolet models – an acoustic roof that folds at speeds up to 31 mph. Premium Plus adds auto-dimming headlights, heated side mirrors, driver's seat memory, heated front seats, and keyless entry and start. The Prestige trim includes adaptive xenon plus headlights, an upgraded MMI system with navigation voice control (in coupe models only), a color driver-information system, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, HD Radio, Bluetooth streaming audio, parking sensors, and a rearview camera. The Prestige trim is the best choice if interior technology is important to you, though you'll pay a bit more for it. Its upgraded infotainment system is easier to navigate than the base system.

Even with its average predicted reliability, you might consider a certified pre-owned Audi A5. Audi CPO vehicles receive the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, then enjoy an additional two-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read the Audi warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass an inspection covering 300-plus points.

2015 Audi A5 and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A5 or 2015 BMW 428i?

The 2015 BMW 428i gets strong acceleration from its 240-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It also has athletic handling and a classy, well-built interior that rivals the A5’s. That power and handling come at a price, though; the BMW has a much higher total cost of ownership. You’ll save money with the A5, but you’ll enjoy driving the 428i much more.

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A5 or 2015 Cadillac ATS?

The 2015 Cadillac ATS coupe is one of the sharpest-handling cars in the class, and it provides a comfortable ride. It has top-notch interior materials but can’t compete with the A5’s more attractive cabin. The ATS coupe has a much stronger base engine than the A5's. That combination of power and handling makes the ATS coupe the better choice, even with its below-average predicted reliability.

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A5 or 2015 Audi TT?

The 2015 Audi TT is a luxury sports car designed for touring not track performance. The A5 offers more room in its rear seats than the TT coupe. The TT convertible is a two-seater. Interior material quality is comparable. Overall, the A5 is a more practical and enjoyable choice.
