  • Tight rear headroom

2015 Audi A5 Overview

Is the 2015 Audi A5 a Good Used Car?

Yes, the 2015 Audi A5 is a good used luxury small car. Its engines deliver plenty of power, particularly in the high-performance trims. The A5 handles well, and it has a high reliability rating. Inside, this sedan looks great, and it has plenty of technology. The base infotainment system is tedious, however, and limited rear-seat headroom makes it tough for adults to ride comfortably in the back.

How Much Does the 2015 Audi A5 Cost to Own?

Is It Better to Buy a Used or New A5?

The 2019 A5 has a starting price of $44,200, and it's quite a different beast than the 2015 model. The car was redesigned for 2018, and Audi debuted a new Sportback body style, which is a four-door hatchback with much more cargo space than the coupe and cabriolet models. The A5 also got a new base engine that puts out 32 more horsepower than the previous model’s and improved gas mileage by about 3 mpg overall. The performance-oriented S5 received a more potent engine as well, adding 21 horsepower.

The new A5 has many standard features that were optional in the 2015 model, if they were offered at all. These include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a rearview camera, a larger infotainment display, and the Pre Sense Basic and Pre Sense City safety packages. The new A5 also has several available features you can't get in the 2015 model, such as handwriting recognition, Audi's Virtual Cockpit, a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, and a surround-view parking camera.

While the 2019 A5's starting price sits well above the average price of a 2015 A5, there are several new luxury small cars that you can get for less than $35,000. They include the 2019 Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Kia Stinger, and Genesis G70. In general, these cars are more modern and more luxurious than the 2015 A5. Some, like the Stinger, also have greater athleticism.

Which Model Year of the Audi A5 Is Best?

Audi debuted the A5 for 2008, and its first generation ran through the 2017 model year. If you can afford it, we recommend buying the redesigned 2018 A5. Its many features are detailed above in the “Is It Better to Buy a Used or New A5?” section.

If that’s not in your budget, the 2013 A5 is a good starting point. It saw significant changes, including updated interior and exterior styling, the introduction of the RS 5 trim, a new engine for the S5 coupe, and Audi Connect availability. For 2014, the base engine received a power upgrade, and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity became standard. The 2015 A5 cabriolet models gained standard all-wheel drive. There weren't a lot of changes in the following years. The RS 5 was discontinued for 2016, and the 2017 A5 received no major updates.

Which Used Audi A5 Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Audi A5 is available in three trims: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The base Premium trim comes with tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, four-way power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver's seat, a 10-speaker stereo system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Cabriolet models come with a soft-top acoustic roof that’s intended to absorb unwanted noise and can raise or lower when the A5 is traveling at speeds below 31 mph.

Premium Plus models gain heated side mirrors, driver's seat memory settings, heated front seats, and keyless entry and start.

The Prestige trim includes adaptive xenon plus headlights, the MMI infotainment system with voice control navigation (coupe models only), a color driver-information system, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, HD Radio, Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

If interior technology is important to you, the Prestige trim is the best choice, though you'll pay a bit more. Its upgraded infotainment system is easier to navigate than the base system.

Certified Pre-Owned Audi A5 Warranty

Audi’s certified pre-owned vehicles are five years old or less and have fewer than 60,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale’s date. Qualifying vehicles bought under the new car warranty have coverage until five years from the vehicle’s original in-service date with no mileage limitation. Certified pre-owned Audis bought after the new car warranty has ended enjoy an additional one-year/unlimited mileage comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read Audi’s warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass an inspection covering 300-plus points.

Based on our research, Audi’s CPO coverage is about average compared to other luxury brands. It’s a better CPO program than what you get from Lincoln and Acura, but it’s not as good as the coverage afforded by Lexus and Volvo.

2015 Audi A5 Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A5 or 2015 BMW 4 Series?

The 2015 BMW 4 Series features a 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's potent and delivers rapid acceleration. This BMW also has great handling and a classy, well-built interior that rivals the A5’s. Both of these cars have good reliability ratings, but the A5 has higher projected ownership costs. Either German sedan makes an appealing choice, but the BMW finishes higher in our luxury small car rankings because of its superior athleticism.

Which Is Better: 2015 Audi A5 or 2015 Cadillac ATS?

The 2015 Cadillac ATS coupe is one of the sharpest-handling cars in the class, and it provides a comfortable ride. Though it has rich cabin materials, the Cadillac's interior is still a step behind the A5’s when it comes to overall luxury. The A5 also has a higher reliability rating than the ATS. The choice may come down to whether you'd rather have the Cadillac's athleticism or the Audi's posh accommodations.

How Does the 2015 Audi A5 Drive?

The 2015 Audi A5 features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 220 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and an eight-speed automatic is available (standard in the A5 Cabriolet). This engine feels energetic and delivers lively acceleration, though some V6-powered rivals feel quicker and more potent.

The Audi S5 comes with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 333 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a seven-speed automated manual transmission is optional (standard in the S5 Cabriolet). The Audi RS 5 has a 450-horsepower, 4.2-liter V8 engine mated to a seven-speed automated manual transmission. How Many People Does the 2015 A5 Seat?

The 2015 A5 seats four and comes standard with leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. Heated front seats and front sport seats are available.

The front seats have a good deal of space and are comfortable overall, but they could use more side bolstering to keep you in place around turns. The available sport seats are much better in this regard. The rear seats are comfortable, but they're short on headroom, which makes it tough for taller people to ride in the back.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2015 Audi A5?

For installing child safety seats, there are two full sets of LATCH connectors on the A5’s rear seats.

2015 Audi A5 Features

Available features include push-button start and an upgraded MMI system with a 7-inch display, navigation, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, HD Radio, and Bluetooth. You can also get Audi Connect, giving you access to a Wi-Fi hot spot, Google search capability, and traffic and weather information.

The A5’s base infotainment system is unnecessarily complicated. It requires multiple steps to adjust even basic audio and climate settings. The upgraded system works a bit better. It features a larger screen and a more conveniently located control knob.
