2014 Audi A5 Overview

Is the 2014 Audi A5 a Good Used Car?

The Audi A5 – a two-door coupe also available in a cabriolet (convertible) body style – is a solid car if you prioritize ride comfort and interior luxury. However, it can’t stack up to rivals’ more athletic driving dynamics. In addition, its complicated infotainment system takes some fun out of the daily drive.

Used 2014 Audi A5 Performance and Interior

Powering the 2014 Audi A5 is a 220-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Most drivers will find this power sufficient for highway driving, but the base A5’s acceleration isn’t especially quick. You can get more power from the Audi S5’s 333-horsepower, supercharged six-cylinder engine and the RS 5’s 450-horsepower V8. The A5 coupe and R5 coupe have standard all-wheel drive – known as Quattro – and a six-speed manual transmission. A seven- or eight-speed transmission is available. The RS 5 has Quattro drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the A5 cabriolet has front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The base A5 gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is pretty good fuel economy for the class. On the road, the A5 offers composed handling and good ride comfort. Still, competitors like the BMW 4 Series and Cadillac ATS provide sharper driving dynamics.

The Audi A5 seats four in both its coupe and cabriolet body styles. Its upscale interior is one of the car’s highlights, offering first-rate materials and sleek styling. The front seats are comfortable, but the rear seats could use more head- and legroom. Trunk space is good with 12.2 cubic feet in the A5 Coupe, 12.4 cubic feet in the RS 5, and 10.2 cubic feet in the A5 Cabriolet.

The 2014 A5 comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone and iPod connectivity, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display. The standard MMI infotainment system’s confusing controls can be difficult for drivers to operate. You’re better off finding an A5 model that comes with the MMI system with navigation, as it has a larger 8-inch display and straightforward controls.

Should I Consider Another Used A5?

The 2014 Audi A5 is a part of the car's first generation, which began production with the 2008 model year. You can save money by buying an older model, but you’ll give up many of the improvements introduced with the 2014 model, including a stronger base engine and standard Bluetooth phone and iPod connectivity.

Which Used Audi A5 Is Right for Me?

The 2014 Audi A5 Coupe has three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Standard features in the A5 Premium trim include three-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone connectivity, a 10-speaker stereo, leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display. The A5 Premium plus adds heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a proximity key, and a number of available technology features. The A5 Prestige trim includes adaptive headlights, Audi’s S line exterior upgrades, a 12- or 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, HD Radio, and Bluetooth audio streaming.

The Audi S5 and RS 5 are performance-oriented models. They offer much better highway power and additional driving enhancements. Both come with an 8-inch display and Audi’s MMI navigation plus system.

You might want to check out a certified pre-owned Audi as well. Audi CPO vehicles receive the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, then enjoy an additional two-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read the Audi warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass an inspection covering 300-plus points.

2014 Audi A5 and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Audi A5 or 2014 BMW 4 Series?

The rear-wheel-drive BMW 4 Series bests the Audi A5 when it comes to driving dynamics, delivering agile handling, sharp steering, good ride comfort, and a slightly stronger base engine. It also has a user-friendly iDrive infotainment system and a high-quality cabin. The 4 Series earns slightly better fuel economy estimates and a higher reliability rating than the A5.

Which Is Better: 2014 Audi A5 or 2014 Audi A4?

The A4 and A5 are both upscale small cars made by Audi, so they have a lot in common: the same standard features, excellent cabin build quality, composed handling, and the same base and midrange engines. However, the A4 has four doors (as opposed to the A5’s two), more cabin and trunk space, a slightly higher reliability rating, and a lower total cost of ownership. The A4 also has above-average safety scores.
