2013 Audi A5 Overview

Is the 2013 Audi A5 a Good Used Car?

The 2013 Audi A5 is a good luxury small car that offers impressive fuel economy estimates for the class, an excellent reliability score, and a range of potent engines. Both the coupe and convertible body styles have a luxurious cabin and plenty of trunk space. Back-seat passengers, however, will feel confined.

Used 2013 Audi A5 Performance and Interior

The Audi A5 sedan and cabriolet (convertible) get a 211-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The sedan pairs this engine to a six-speed manual transmission; an eight-speed automatic is available. The cabriolet uses a continuously variable automatic transmission. Fuel economy is admirable for the class: 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway when equipped with the eight-speed automatic transmission.

The engine delivers sprightly acceleration, though its turbocharger can take a moment to kick in when pulling away from a stop. The powerful brakes inspire confidence around corners, and the A5's ride is both agile and comfortable. However, some drivers may notice its overly light steering.

The 2013 all-wheel-drive Audi S5 coupe comes with a 333-horsepower, supercharged V6 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. The S4 cabriolet pairs the same engine to a seven-speed automated manual transmission. The Audi RS 5 model is the performance beast. It has a 450-horsepower V8 engine that can zip the car from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

There are four seats with leather upholstery inside the 2013 Audi A5. It isn’t a surprise for a luxury car to have an opulent interior, but the Audi A5’s is more stylish and well-crafted than many competitors’. The front seats are spacious and provide good forward visibility. The back seats, on the other hand, are cramped for adults in both the A5 coupe and A5 cabriolet. Trunk space is above average for the class in both coupe and convertible body styles, with 12.2 and 10.2 cubic feet, respectively.

Standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control and a 10-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack and satellite radio. Push-button start and Audi’s MMI infotainment system, which was updated for the 2013 model year, are available. The infotainment system can make it difficult to operate simple functions like climate controls.

Is the 2013 A5 the Best Model Year to Buy?

The 2013 Audi A5 is part of the car’s first generation, which began with the 2009 model year and ended with the 2017 model year. The 2013 A5 is significantly updated, with improvements to interior and exterior styling and the addition of the available Audi Connect internet system with Wi-Fi access. Which Used Audi A5 Is Right for Me?

The 2013 A5 has two body styles – coupe and convertible (cabriolet) – and three models: A5, S5, and RS 5. Each body style and model is available in three trims: Premium (base), Premium Plus, and Prestige.

The A5 Premium comes with tri-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, aluminum trim, automatic headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 10-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack, an SD card slot, and satellite radio. The A5 Premium Plus adds Xenon headlights, driver memory seats, heated front seats, iPod connectivity, and Bluetooth audio.

The A5 Prestige includes adaptive Xenon headlights, Audio Connect, a premium Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker stereo (12-speakers in the A5 cabriolet), HD Radio, push-button start, and an Audi MMI infotainment system with navigation. It also comes loaded with a few safety features, including blind spot monitoring, a rearview camera, and adaptive headlights.

Performance enthusiasts should consider the Audi S5 and RS 5 models, which come with sport suspensions and larger, stronger engines than the base model provides.

You may also want to consider a certified pre-owned A5. Audi CPO vehicles receive the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, then enjoy an additional two-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read the Audi warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass an inspection covering 300-plus points.

The model's original sale date determines whether it is eligible for the CPO program.

2013 Audi A5 and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi A5 or 2013 Audi A4?

The 2013 Audi A4 comes only as a sedan but offers most of the A5’s great features. The A4 gets a perfect reliability rating, good safety scores, and better fuel economy estimates than the A5. However, these Audi siblings have some disappointing qualities in common too, including their complicated infotainment systems and cramped back seats. Both are good cars, but the A4 gets the nod.

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi A5 or 2013 BMW 1 Series?

The BMW 1 Series – available in both coupe and convertible body styles – is the better car for performance-focused drivers. Its agile handling and sharp steering make it fun to drive, though its ride can be stiff in sport-tuned models. The 1 Series also has a perfect reliability rating, standard Bluetooth, and a user-friendly infotainment system. For daily driving, however, the A5 is the better selection.
