2009 Audi A5 Overview

When it was new, critics liked the A5 because it is essentially an Audi A4 wrapped in a coupe body. As such, the A5 retains all of the A4’s positive traits, like composed, sporty handling and an upscale interior. Its main drawback is that it can only seat four, and even then, most critics said passengers won’t be especially comfortable in the back. Like the A4, the A5 may be more costly to repair than some competitors.

Powering the 2009 A5 is a 265-horsepower V6 engine that critics said is peppy and can easily move the A5, but is not especially powerful. Those looking for more power should consider the V8-powerd S5. One available feature worth noting is Audi Drive Select, which allows the driver to adjust suspension and throttle settings to either a comfort or performance bias. The A5 comes standard with all-wheel drive, and is available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Automatic transmission-equipped models earn a fuel economy estimate of 17/26 mpg city/highway, while those with a manual get 16/27 mpg.

Critics liked the A5’s interior, calling it classy and remarking that it has excellent fit and finish. The front seats were praised for feeling comfortable, while the back seats drew criticism for being cramped and difficult to access, but that is a typical complaint of coupes. Maximum trunk capacity is 12 cubic feet, which is a bit low for the class as a whole, but normal for the A5’s closest competitors. The A5 comes standard with leather seats, a sunroof and tri-zone climate control. Available equipment includes Bluetooth, navigation, a 14-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo and a backup camera.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the A5, you may also like the 2009 Infiniti G coupe. The G37 was regarded by many critics as one of the sportiest 2009 midsize cars available, thanks to its powerful engine and athletic suspension. The G37’s interior also drew positive marks for its comfortable seats and overall material quality.

Another upscale 2009 midsize car you may want to consider is the 2009 BMW 3-Series. The 3-Series is one of the benchmarks among sport sedans and coupes, thanks to its smooth, powerful engines and composed, agile handling. Keep in mind that critics grew frustrated with BMW’s iDrive system, so unless a navigation system is a requirement, you might want to find a 3-Series without it.
