It received perfect scores in all five IIHS crash tests and a high rating for its available front crash prevention technology. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2017 A4 five out of five stars in side and rollover crash tests, along with four stars in the frontal crash test.

Standard active safety equipment includes a rearview camera and Audi Pre-Sense Basic, which prepares occupants for an impending forward collision by rolling up windows and tightening seatbelts. The A4 also comes standard with Pre-Sense City, which includes pre-collision braking up to 52 mph, forward collision warning, and pedestrian warning.
