2013 Audi A4 Overview

Is the 2013 Audi A4 a Good Used Car?

The used 2013 Audi A4 is among the most well-rounded luxury small cars available. It offers refined performance and one of the most upscale cabins in the class. The back seats may be tight, but all in all this is a great used car.

Used 2013 Audi A4 Performance and Interior

The front-wheel-drive 2013 Audi A4’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine generates 211 horsepower and hasty acceleration for effortless highway driving. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard. All-wheel-drive models are available with an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission, and both deliver a more thrilling ride than the CVT. The performance-tuned Audi S4 comes with a 333-horsepower, supercharged V6 engine that puts down potent acceleration. The EPA estimates that a used 2013 A4 gets up to 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is impressive for the class. The A4 feels comfortable on nearly any road surface. It also offers composed handling through turns, nicely weighted steering, and strong brakes.

In a class of cars with upscale interiors, the Audi A4’s materials are finer than most. It features excellent fit and finish, as well as attractive accents and trims. The front seats provide plenty of space, even for tall occupants. However, adults will likely feel cramped in the A4’s small back seats. At 12.4 cubic feet, the A4 has a bit less trunk space than most luxury small sedans.

Standard features include a sunroof, leather upholstery, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system, which has complicated audio and climate controls that take some getting used to. Available features include navigation, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, a Bang and Olufsen audio system, and Audi Connect wireless internet connectivity.

How Safe Is the A4?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the A4 a Top Safety Pick and gave it the highest rating of Good in four crash tests. However, it loses some points for its low rating of Poor in the small overlap front crash test. In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing, the 2013 A4 earned a perfect five stars across the board.

Is the 2013 A4 the Best Model Year to Buy?

The 2013 Audi A4 is part of a generation that began with the 2009 model year and ended with the 2016 model year. Though earlier models could save you some money, the 2013 A4 is a smarter buy. It adds significant upgrades to styling and the MMI infotainment system. You should also consider a used 2014 Audi A4, which comes with a stronger base engine and has standard Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. For 2013, the A4 Avant wagon was discontinued.

Which Used Audi A4 Is Right for Me?

The 2013 A4 has three trims: Premium (base), Premium Plus, and Prestige. The A4 Premium comes with a sunroof, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker stereo, an auxiliary audio input, two SD card slots, satellite radio, and Audi’s MMI infotainment system with a 6.5-inch screen. While that’s an impressive number of standard features, the A4 Premium Plus adds some notable technology and comfort features, including Bluetooth, iPod integration, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, and memory settings for the driver’s seat and side mirrors.

The Audi A4 Prestige model includes some standard active safety technologies, including a rearview camera with rear parking sensors, adaptive headlights, and blind spot monitoring. The A4 Prestige also comes with voice-controlled navigation, a 14-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo, HD Radio, and a proximity key with push-button start.

Audi also offers a performance-oriented model – the S4 – which has the strongest engine in the lineup, all-wheel drive, and a sport-tuned suspension.

You may also want to consider a certified pre-owned A4. Audi CPO vehicles receive the balance of the original four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty, then enjoy an additional two-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. The two warranties differ in important ways, and there may be additional services like roadside assistance, so read the Audi warranty page carefully. Audi CPO models must pass an inspection covering 300-plus points.

2013 Audi A4 and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi A4 or 2013 BMW 3 Series?

If you would prefer to give up some ride and cabin comfort for greater agility, the BMW 3 Series is the way to go. It delivers corner-carving composure and razor-sharp steering that make it a blast to drive. While the A4’s base engine is stronger, the 3 Series has plenty of power, better fuel economy, and a brawny available 414-horsepower turbocharged V6.

Which Is Better: 2013 Audi A4 or 2013 Audi A6?

The 2013 Audi A6 offers most of what’s great about the A4, but in a roomier package. If you frequently carry adults in the rear seats, you’ll prefer the A6’s larger ones. The Audi A6’s trunk is a couple cubic feet larger as well. In addition, it has more standard features, including Bluetooth, leather upholstery, and three-zone climate controls. Still, the A6 isn’t quite as nimble as the A4.
