The A4's very good interior score indicates it's one of the premier cabins in the class. Experts cite luxurious materials and an abundance of standard and optional features as the car's high points, but the seats aren't as comfortable as some other upscale sedans.

To auto writers, the 2008 Audi A4's cabin quality and assortment of standard and optional amenities are superior to most of the upscale midsize class.

Stereo and Entertainment

The standard audio system includes a six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3 input. An available upgrade is a Bose Premium Audio option featuring 10 speakers with a subwoofer and center channel, and speed-sensitive volume technology. But auto writers note the premium system is difficult to use.

No information is given on the currently playing track, nor is there a means of selecting individual tracks, artists, or albums. ... To get to our chosen song, we needed to know not only the exact name of the track, but had to also navigate our way through seven lists of 99 tracks to get there. Having repeated the scroll-and-skip procedure three times, we gave up and tuned into FM radio." -- CNET
  • "The premium stereo has MP3 capability and a pair of slots for Secure Digital memory cards. Unfortunately, only volume and pre-set radio stations can be changed without first pressing Accept on the opening menu every time the car is started. We find it annoying to sign the electronic equivalent of a liability waiver just to turn on the radio. Also, the stereo is on all the time the navigational system is active, and it's annoying. Audi's Navigation system is available as a stand-alone option that becomes laborious to use when fused with the A4's optional multi-media interface system.

Additional Features

Audi routes many of the available in-cabin technologies through its MultiMedia Interface, a system that sits next to the navigation screen and controls the navigation system, stereo, paired cell phones and the trip computer. But several auto writers had difficulty with the system.
