Audi’s Luxury Midsize Sedan Gets New Tech

The 2019 Audi A6 made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2018. It may not look much different from the outgoing – and according to Audi, bestselling – A6, but there are some significant changes in this update, particularly when it comes to technology.

All of the sensors for Level 3 autonomy will be in place in the A6, but not the software to make them work. The company is waiting on legislation that will allow for autonomous vehicles on public roads. Level 3 autonomy means that the car can take on most driving tasks without human hands on the wheel, but it will ask the driver to take over if anything goes wrong. The human has to monitor the situation and be ready for that takeover. In less high-tech news, a station wagon version of the updated Audi A6 expect to come along in the near future as well.

Since the A6 will be available first in Germany, most of the information available is for the European-spec car. While the American version will likely be very similar, expect to see a few differences.

The current 2018 A6 is tied for first place in our midsize car rankings thanks to its nimble handling, user-friendly tech, opulent interior, and powerful, fuel-efficient engine options. It also won our 2018 Best Luxury Midsize Car for Families award.
