2009 Aston Martin Vantage Overview

While it certainly isn't the quickest vehicle in its class, reviewers find that the Vantage has a lot to offer -- an attractive combination of exclusivity, elegance, and sports performance that few competitors at this price point can match. According to Edmunds, "Though other sports cars costing considerably less money can match or better the Vantage's straight-line performance, none, with the exception of the Porsche 911 and Audi R8, can provide such an enjoyable and exotic driving experience overall." Adding to the allure of the V8 Vantage is Aston Martin's exotic aura -- especially in the United States, where the automaker's vehicles are still rare.

Before buying a Vantage, test drive an Audi R8. It's not as exotic or elegant as the Vantage, but it's certainly as eye-catching. Some might even argue that it looks more menacing. The 911 Carrera also makes a great choice -- especially in terms of performance. However, those seeking exclusivity will be turned off by its not-so-exotic presence.

Though the '09 Vantage is largely a carryover from the previous model year, notable performance-enhancing upgrades have been made. Popular Mechanics says "loads of mechanical upgrades enhance virtually every aspect of the car's performance. The engine has grown from 4.3 to 4.8 liters, and output has leapt by 40 ponies to 420 hp, just as torque has climbed by 44 lb.-ft. to 346."

The 2009 V8 Vantage is available as a coupe and convertible.

  • "Besides its exclusivity, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage roadster offers precise handling dynamics that make you feel like a hero when you're carving through mountain roads, luxury accommodations that allow you to drive in a relaxed and confident manner through busy traffic, and a sensuous shape that begs you to caress its tapering flanks." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "At $110,000, it is -- in this class -- a bargain. Add the allure of the Aston name and we wouldn't be surprised if the British maker achieves its admittedly aggressive sales goals." -- BusinessWeek
  • "[A]t an estimated price of $120,000 for the coupe, it carries a balance of gorgeous design, hand-built charisma, and outright performance that is tough to beat. Finally after three years, the baby Aston is a true competitor for both the Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8." -- Car and Driver
