Ford’s Redesigned Explorer Is the Leanest and Strongest Yet

Ford has completely redesigned the Explorer for 2020, addressing many of the issues that led the current 2019 Ford Explorer to a position in the lower half of our ranking of midsize SUVs. After nearly 30 years on the market, the 2020 Ford Explorer continues to evolve.

In some ways, the 2020 Ford Explorer returns to its roots. It once again rides on a rear- or all-wheel-drive platform, eschewing front-wheel drive to gain improved performance and towing capability compared to the last generation. The 2020 Explorer also breaks new ground, with a sporty ST trim and a thoroughly modern hybrid powertrain.

The new Explorer, which was revealed in early January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, features more modern styling. However, it’s still recognizable as Ford’s midsize SUV. A stronger design based on a new platform results in a more athletic driving experience and increased capability.

Keep reading to learn more about the all-new Explorer, so you can get familiar with this SUV before it goes on sale later this summer.
