Your First Look at the All-New 2018 Buick Regal

There has been a fair bit of eagerness for this fall’s arrival of the 2018 Buick Regal. A re-badged Opel Insignia, the new Regal will be imported from Germany, and there is some significance to that, since the new Regal will be competing in more ways than ever with the likes of the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series, among others.

But there is at least one big difference: There will no longer be a Buick Regal sedan.

Instead, the Regal is being offered in Sportback and TourX body styles. The Sportback has a sloping rear roofline that includes a large liftgate in the rear, as opposed to a trunk. It’s a concept you may have seen on the Audi A7, for example. As for the TourX, Buick is calling it a crossover, but most in the automotive press think it’s better described as a wagon that will compete with vehicles like the Subaru Outback.

This is the sixth generation of the Buick Regal, and the second since its return to the market in 2011 after a short hiatus.
