All About the Fiat 124 Spider

2017 Fiat 124 Spider
2 of 9

Fiat’s history in the United States dates back to 1908 – meaning that the company’s roots here are about as deep as some of the Detroit heavyweights. Fiat immediately started producing its U.S.-market models in the U.S., but their plant was shut down during World War I.

Fiat made another attempt to gain market share in the U.S. in the 1950s, but quality problems plagued the brand’s limited lineup, and the company left American shores again in the early 1980s. When Fiat finalized its merger with Chrysler in late 2014, no truly fresh Fiat models emerged – just more variants of the 500 (including the larger Fiat 500L and the 500X subcompact SUV). That changed recently with the introduction of the new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, a roadster that seats two passengers and has a price of about $25,000.
