2011 Acura ZDX Overview

Test drivers weren’t sure how to categorize the 2011 Acura ZDX, since it’s an unusual combination of sporty car and SUV. They said it’s too much of an SUV to be a great-performing sports car, but it’s too much of a sports car to be a practical SUV. Its coupe-like looks are difficult to categorize as well. No matter what the Acura ZDX is, reviewers agreed that it certainly stands out from the crowd. It also offers more standard features than many competitors, with base models including a power liftgate, leather heated front seats with 10-way power adjustment and dual-zone automatic climate control with humidity control and an air filter. Higher trims include upgraded leather upholstery, push-button start and Bluetooth audio streaming, though a rear-seat entertainment system is not available.

Beyond interesting looks and sporty-for-an-SUV performance, reviewers said that most other SUVs in the class are better choices. Several critics said that its sibling, the 2011 Acura MDX, is just as sporty while offering much more utility and practicality. The ZDX’s sloping roofline cuts down on rear-seat space, and its safety ratings are the lowest in its class. The ZDX does have standard all-wheel drive, but unless your priority is style, you should take a look at other luxury midsize SUVs.

Other Cars to Consider

For better performance and a bit more utility, consider the 2011 Infiniti FX. The FX offers fantastic handling and two powerful engines in an especially bold, stylish package. Its fuel economy isn’t quite as good as the ZDX’s, but the FX’s beautifully-designed cabin and long list of high-tech features combine with eye-popping performance to provide a better alternative to the ZDX.

If you like that the ZDX is fairly sporty but want something that’s much more practical, consider the ZDX’s larger sibling, the 2011 Acura MDX. The MDX seats seven instead of five like the ZDX, but reviewers said it’s especially fun to drive for a three-row SUV. The MDX’s fuel economy trails the ZDX’s, but it does have better safety scores.
