2012 Acura TSX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Acura TSX was new.

Interior: 8.2

Other than tight seating for adults and confusing climate, audio and navigation controls, reviewers have few complaints about the 2012 Acura TSX’s interior. Materials' quality is great, and the TSX offers a solid list of standard and optional features.

  • "Inside, the cabin is comfortable and inviting, with leather all around." -- AutoWeek
  • "TSX exhibits solid assembly quality and most of the trim and plastics are nicely textured. The overall effect is very understated, and leans more towards sporty minimalism than premium or luxurious. A few interior panels look low buck, but they don't detract from the clean ambiance." -- Consumer Guide

The 2012 Acura TSX’s seating critique is common for small cars. The back seats are tight for some adults, but comfortable for others. Depending on how tall you are, you’ll find the back seat lacks headroom, legroom and foot space. The front seats, however, receive excellent reviews. Test drivers also report outstanding visibility.

  • "[Front-seat] Legroom is good, and even tall occupants have sufficient headroom. The seats are comfortable and nicely bolstered. Visibility is good all around, though the outside mirrors are on the small side. … [Rear-seat] Legroom is cramped even if the front seats are not set far back. Fortunately, the angle of the rear seat back prevents the sunroof housing from stealing too much headroom. Taller passengers may find head clearance lacking. Foot space is tight unless the front seats are raised high." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The front seats, for one thing, are superbly shaped for maximum comfort." -- Popular Mechanics

Interior Features

Many car reviewers say the 2012 Acura TSX has too many buttons, so many in fact, that it makes them overwhelming. The optional navigation system also has its issues, such as being hard to read in sunlight.

The TSX comes standard with a seven-speaker stereo, a USB port, an auxiliary jack, Bluetooth, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and satellite radio. Music voice commands and an upgraded surround sound system are optional.

  • "The gauges are large and quick to decipher at a glance. All TSX models have a center-mounted dashboard screen for audio, climate, and navigation functions. Those controls are all separate from each other. That results in what some testers find a bewildering array of buttons, but at least they are clearly marked. However, the screen is prone to washing out in bright sunlight. It takes study to master all of the navigation system's functions. Standard voice recognition helps, but any commands must be spoken slowly, loudly, and clearly." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The center stack is dominated by the same array of knobs and buttons found in the MDX and the RDX for the climate control, entertainment and navigation options. That means more than 25 knobs or buttons, a dizzying array at first glance." -- AutoWeek
  • "The dash feels awash in buttons. The steering wheel has 11 buttons on it, seven of them multi-function. The center stack is a button convention with two multi-function knobs as special guests. We're sure it wouldn't take much to adapt and find our go-to buttons, but the initial cockpit survey leads us to think Airbus, not Acura." -- Autoblog

Reviewers say the 2012 Acura TSX sedan’s 14 cubic feet of space is spot-on with what is expected for a small sedan, but complain about the trunk’s construction. They say the trunk is narrow, and that its hinges get in the way.

  • "A wide aperture and low deck are appreciated, but the trunk narrows quite a bit between the rear tires, limiting its usefulness for hauling bulky items. The trunk lid has traditional hinges rather than compact strut-type units, though they steal little cargo space and are covered to prevent cargo damage. Storage pockets in all four doors help compensate for the somewhat small glovebox and center-console bins." -- Consumer Guide
