2020 Acura RDX Interior Review

Interior: 8.2

The 2020 Acura RDX features an attractive cabin with top-notch materials throughout. The seats are roomy and supportive, the cargo area is abundant, and there's loads of standard technology. That said, it may take some time to master the infotainment system.

  • "Build quality is excellent inside and out, and the RDX offers something a little different from competitors in terms of interior design and ergonomics." -- Edmunds
  • "Full grain leathers, contrast stitching and piping, real brushed aluminum, and genuine Olive Ash wood can all be found inside the new RDX, and they all look and feel like premium materials. There aren't any obvious plasticky bits that the passengers will come into contact with that would feel out of place from a luxury brand." -- Autoblog (2019)
  • "Materials quality is a step up as well, with genuine wood and metallic accents all over the interior and improved plastics on the dash, door panels, and center console." -- Truck Trend (2019)

The RDX seats up to five people. Synthetic leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, and heated front seats are standard. Available comfort amenities include Milano leather upholstery, 16-way power-adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The RDX has lots of space in both rows. Visibility in the front is good, but it’s slightly hindered in the rear.

For securing child safety seats, there are two full sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the RDX's rear outboard seats and an upper tether on the rear middle seat. For ease of use, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the system the highest rating of Good+, a rating few vehicles earn.

  • "A wide range of drivers should be able to find a comfortable driving position, and rear headroom is more than sufficient for average adults." -- Edmunds
  • "There’s a sense of openness to the cabin, with good leg- and headroom in both rows -- a function of the new model’s larger dimensions. Three adults could fit comfortably across the rear seat. Driver vision is fairly good to all areas except where the rear quarters rise to meet the rear roof pillars." -- Consumer Guide (2019)
  • "The front seats are above average in their support, as is rear-passenger space." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)

Interior Features

This crossover comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic moonroof, push-button start, and Acura’s 10.2-inch True Touchpad Interface with a touchpad controller, a nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Siri Eyes Free, and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with the AcuraLink telematics system, which lets you lock, unlock, start, and stop the car from your mobile device, request roadside assistance, view vehicle technical data, and track the RDX if it’s stolen.

Standard driver assistance features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and road departure mitigation.

Available features include navigation, two additional USB ports, 12- and 16-speaker ELS audio systems, GPS-linked climate control, a surround-view parking camera, a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring.

Instead of a standard touch-screen infotainment system, the RDX uses Acura's True Touchpad Interface (TTI), which features a touchpad controller on the center console that mirrors the display. The idea is to make it easier for the driver to operate the system. The TTI receives mixed reviews, with most critics saying that it takes time to learn.

  • "Additionally, we're not terribly fond of the RDX's infotainment system. And the required learning curve to operate it may turn off shoppers who aren't interested in picking up new technology." -- Edmunds
  • "The touchpad corresponds to the display perfectly, such that a tap of the upper right will activate the same location on the screen. And since it's not a mouse-like trackpad, there's no need to drag your finger to select other features. Just tap where you want to tap and all is well. A secondary, smaller display on the right of the screen allows for two-feature monitoring, while a similar secondary touchpad makes it easy to swap screens around." -- Truck Trend (2019)
  • "There's definitely a learning curve -- A and B 'zones,' split screens, and the lack of haptic feedback mean it isn't immediately intuitive the way that a touchscreen would be -- but once accustomed, True Touchpad Interface feels vastly superior to similar systems used by Acura's competitors (Lexus, we're looking at you). Apple CarPlay comes standard, and as soon as Google makes Android Auto workable with a touchpad, Acura promises to add that, too." -- Autoblog (2019)

The RDX has plenty of cargo space for a luxury compact SUV. It comes with 29.5 cubic feet of room behind the second-row seats and 58.9 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. This crossover also comes with a hidden under-storage compartment where you can stow smaller items like a purse or laptop.

  • "Acura really has interior packaging figured out, and the RDX is yet another showcase of space efficiency. From a generous cargo area to flexible interior storage solutions, the RDX makes having a lot of stuff easier than it should be." -- Edmunds
  • "Cargo room is also among the tops in its class. With the rear seat up, there is 29.5 cubic feet, about twice that of a … [sedan's trunk]. Fold the rear seats and that space expands to 58.9 cubic feet, plenty to hold packages or sports gear." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The RDX's cargo space is enhanced with a hidden storage compartment under the floor. It's 6 inches deep, measures 16 x 30 inches, and includes handy segmented bins. The additional 1.7 cubic feet of stash space is perfect for stowing laptops, tablets, cameras, purses, and other valuables out of the sight of larcenous eyes." -- New York Daily News (2019)
