2014 Acura RDX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 Acura RDX was new.

Interior: 8.1

The automotive press says that the 2014 Acura RDX features an attractively-designed cabin that’s built with soft-touch materials. One test driver also writes that the 2014 RDX offers user-friendly controls and ample passenger space.

  • "The 2014 Acura RDX's cabin is a pleasant place to be, as it feels spacious and has a straightforward control layout. A dual-cockpit dash design and two-tone dash/upholstery color schemes add visual flair, and materials quality is high throughout." -- Edmunds
  • "The cabin of the 2014 Acura RDX is a classic representation of form meeting function. Yet the RDX still boasts a commendable amount of soft-touch materials, giving this SUV the premium feel (literally) its price warrants." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Most plastic surfaces are nicely grained, soft-touch materials, but Acura dresses things up by inserting a sizable amount of leatherette-trimmed accents into the front and rear door panels." -- Automobile Magazine (2013)

The 2014 Acura RDX seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery and power-adjustable heated front seats. Reviewers agree that the RDX offers comfortable and supportive front seats, as well as ample head- and legroom in both rows. One auto writer says that the RDX offers more rear legroom than competitors like the Cadillac SRX

  • "Seat comfort front and rear is very good, with firm, supportive cushions and plenty of head- and legroom. At 38.3 inches, rear legroom is impressive and more comparable to that of a larger crossover." -- Edmunds
  • "Furthermore, the RDX has more rear legroom than even the mid-size Cadillac SRX." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The rear seats have plenty of leg- and knee room for average-sized adults. Both front and rear legroom lead the class." -- Cars.com (2013)

Interior Features

The 2014 Acura RDX comes standard with a rearview camera, keyless access with push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth and a seven-speaker stereo with a USB port, satellite radio and an auxiliary input jack. The optional Technology Package adds features like a power liftgate, navigation and a 10-speaker ELS surround-sound audio system.

Reviewers say that the 2014 RDX offers a long list of standard features and straightforward audio and climate controls. One test driver notes that while the RDX’s dash is a bit button-heavy, its interior features are generally easier to use than those found in the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class.

  • "Also, the RDX's long list of standard features makes it a value-oriented choice in a market segment that typically puts little emphasis on value. The RDX includes many standard amenities, including a sunroof and heated front seats, that cost extra on competing models." -- Edmunds
  • "Numerous buttons populate the dash and steering wheel, but they are relatively easy to use and identify, and are more straightforward than the center-console-mounted rotary dials used in the Mercedes GLK, BMW X3 and Audi Q5." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside, the center stack is much more intuitive, with climate controls, audio and navigation buttons grouped together." -- AutoWeek (2013)

The 2014 RDX has 26.1 cubic feet of cargo space, which expands to 61.3 cubic feet with the second row folded. Test drivers write that the RDX’s 60/40-split rear seats fold easily, and that a low cargo floor makes it easy to load and unload bulky items. While some reviewers say that cargo space behind the second row is about average for the class, others note that the second row folds easily when more room is needed.

  • "In terms of cargo capacity, the RDX provides 26.1 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seats, which is about average for this class." -- Edmunds
  • "Although the rear seats lack fold-flat capability, they do feature a 60/40 split to accommodate larger items." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "I found it plenty large for my needs, which included a Costco run that filled the back with three 55-pound bags of potting soil and left enough room for food and other items. More important, the low load floor simplifies throwing in those large items." -- Cars.com (2013)
  • “The rear seats fold down easily to maximize the cargo space." -- CNET (2013)
